    I like this seed mix because it’s cheap, it has no pellets and it’s pretty much the same quality as Kaytee and other brands. I have it in hand in case my normal seed mix runs out for my pet budgies. But I mainly use this for wild birds. Birds like Cardinals, Doves, House Sparrows and Dark eyed juncos are all attracted to this mix. Even Squirrels like it which is great!!! Because the seeds are vitamin coated, I’m sure the wild birds get benefitted from it. Should this be a COMPLETE diet for pet birds?? No! Pet birds like Finches, canaries, budgies and other parrots need a wide variety of FRESH FOODS in their diet. So don’t forget to feed veggies in a separate dish so they get their proper nutrition.

    I ordered these bird seeds because I enjoying feeding the birds that come into my yard. It is definitely waste free. The birds are able to eat all of the seeds with no shells left behind. These seeds do not make a mess in my yard and for that I am grateful. The birds appear to enjoy the seeds as I have several birds to visit my bird feeder to include blue rays, Cardinals, and occasionally a woodpecker. The seeds has a nice earthy smell and it is very easy to store and pour inside the bird feeder container. The color of the seeds are tan with other color seeds mixed in which is probably another reason the birds may be drawn to the food. I enjoy watching the birds enjoy this food. I would definitely recommend this product for all wild bird lovers.

    This bird food is nice because it is no mess, meaning that all the seeds have had the hull removed and everything in the bag is edible, so your deck or patio doesn’t get covered in inedible hulls. It is mostly millet, cracked corn and broken bits of sunflower seeds with a few peanuts scattered about. We have a long trough type feeder on the side of a deck rail and I dump a large amount of food out every day. We have had over 50 different species of birds on our deck, so I like to keep feeding year round. We also get squirrels and chipmunks at the feeder, which doesn’t bother me. Everybody has to eat, and I enjoy their antics. We can clearly see the feeder from the house and all the wildlife provides a lot of entertainment. I switch up the food depending on what is the best deal at the time, but I always get the no mess type because… wait for it… it doesn’t make a mess!
  • Little Corn, Mostly Shelled Sunflower . . . .
    Due to negative comments in reviews about the corn in this product, I almost did not order it. I used to buy the Kaytee mixed wild bird seed when it was on sale, but stopped when it was basically cracked corn with a little bird seed thrown in. Corn is a cheap filler and can be bought alone for a low price. Fortunately, there was no problem with corn in this bag. Yes, there are some small whole kernel pieces, but not that many, and I have squirrels.This bag was a pretty good mixture of mostly sunflower chips and millet. Both very well liked and millet is not cheap, plus sorely missing in many mixed seed bags these days. Peanuts? Not that many. In fact, I could not recommend this to someone wanting peanuts. You’ll have to buy the Kaytee shelled peanuts, which usually have a lot of pulverized peanut skins, but is still a better deal than other brands of shelled peanuts for birds.

    Why did you pick this product vs others?:Does attract a variety of birds. Finches, sparrows, juncos, chickadees, etc. HOWEVER, definitely the messiest seed I’ve ever had in the feeder. Everyday I had a pile of seed and seed carcass all over the patio. Since there was so much on the ground and not always possible to keep clearing, we also got more squirrels, and a mouse. Which was cute but not the assignment. As much as they liked it, won’t get again.

    My birds love Zupreem pellets. I usually cycle them between the Fruitblend type and the Natural blend. Considering what some of the other big brands charge for their good pelleted food, I am glad that Zupreem can keep their prices more affordable than them. My birds love this stuff, except for maybe the banana shapes. There was a time when I believe they made the bananas into plain, round yellow balls, and they did not seem to have an issue with that.     Amazon asks me to rate Wagner’s Wild Bird Food on freshness and flavor, but I haven’t tasted it and the birds do not voice much of an opinion. Safflower seed has been hard to find anywhere in early 2022, so I was happy to find it here. The price is right, the packaging is good, and the seed has no concerning appearances or smells. The birds here seem to take it just fine. (They were accustomed to Kaytee, but they voiced no complaints about changes in terroir, nose, palate or mouthfeel. It’s a good vintage, but I wouldn’t lay it down for more than a year.) Squirrels continue to show no interest.Here’s the thing about squirrels and other unwanted visitors: your first line of defense is the shape and placement of your feeder. Forget about paying a premium for fancy mechanical devices; I’ve never found one that squirrels couldn’t outsmart. Nevertheless, there is no point in making it easy for them. Don’t give them anything that is easy to climb, jump to or hang from.Secondly, avoid seed mixes. Birds’ natural behavior is to flick away any seeds that do not meet their particular culinary preferences. This sends excessive amounts of seed to the ground, where it will attract a few ground-feeding birds like mourning doves but also a lot of mammalian varmints that you would probably not welcome. I might occasionally add some nyjer seed to the tray, which does not seem to encourage flicking but does seem to appeal to wrens – an enjoyable and useful species. In the winter I place suet in a separate nearby feeder, which attracts woodpeckers of all sorts, bluebirds(!), thrashers and a few others. When grackles return in the spring, they will quickly decimate the suet, so I trade out that feeder for a hummingbird feeder. Two feeders at a time – that’s it. (I’ve got mulberry trees and juniper trees that attract flocks of cedar waxwings a couple of times a year – a delight!)Third, safflower seed, in contrast to almost every other seed I have tried, does seem to be significantly less interesting to squirrels. I’ve read that it has a sour taste that mammals do not like but birds do not notice. Cardinals, chickadees, nuthatches, finches and whoever is in the neighborhood seem to like it just fine.Fourth, back to the physical feeder. I have found that a design with a narrow (½”) lip on the seed tray, blocked elsewhere by the seed reservoir, keeps larger perching birds (e.g., blackbirds, grackles, starlings, robins, blue jays, etc.) off the feeder. I have also found that adding an ounce or two of fresh seed to the tray each day, placing only a few small rocks in the seed reservoir for stability in the wind, is a useful strategy. Of course the seed sometimes runs out during the day. Intermittent reinforcement has been shown to be the strongest incentive for birds to keeping coming back to see if seed has been added.

    For several years we used Wagner’s Black Oil Sunflower seed and our birds were thrilled. But, eventually I realized that we were being eaten out of house and home. We switched, with some trepidation, to Tractor Supply’s store brand, Wild Wings for 1/4 – 1/3 the cost. And lo and behold, the birds love it just as well. So while Wagner’s is convenient, it’s only a few miles to Tractor Supply for a 20 lb bag that costs just a bit more than the 5 lb. Wagner’s bag.
