Great and playable right out of box after tuning. Slight rod adjustment may be needed but intonation is good and fret ends are really smooth. A great P bass, it’s got great tone, knobs are solid feeling and strings aren’t too bad. Highly recommend for everyone.

In the era of a lot of inexpensive guitars and basses, I’m honestly glad that Squier (Fender) decided to jump in. This is a great bass, either for a beginner or intermediate player that wants to get a P bass. It’s got a jazz width neck, so it’s a little skinnier and narrower at the nut. If you’re going to play this a little more seriously, I’d for sure suggest replacing the strings and probably the pickup as well. For the price, this is an awesome instrument.It’s got a matte finish to it which I like the look of, but may not be everyone’s favorite. The hardware feels cheap, but it’s because it is a cheap instrument. Otherwise, it is completely on par with or better than other basses in this price range.It sounds like a P bass. A pickup upgrade would take you a long way, but the stock pickup is not “bad” for what it is.

Bought this bass as just one to leave out next to the bed to mess with . This bass though has become more than just a night stand bass. She plays fast and sounds great ! The frets are super polished and shiny with zero sharp edges. The neck is as straight as an arrow and the finish is an amazing almost flat feel . This bass is fantastic for the money !!! I have a $600 Squier 40th anniversary p bass and this debut p bass easily holds its on next to the expensive 40th anniversary Squier. This debut bass is even better than my affinity Squier p bass I bought back in high school. Highly recommend buying this P bass !

The good stuff first: I really like the matte/satin (or whatever they call it) finish, and the Dakota Red is very muted, not fire-engine red, which was a nice surprise to me.Probably just got lucky in that the fret ends are pretty smooth….I’ll file some of the frets at the higher end….some of those are a bit ragged, but in general….haven’t cut my hand or anything.Intonation was spot-on perfect out of the box, and the action height was at a good average level….not super high, but no fret buzz….not inclined to fiddle with the bridge at this point.Well, this isn’t really a criticism….it is as advertised….but be forewarned the neck is pretty small, with a shallow C-shape. Which I suppose would be very comfortable for someone transitioning from guitar to bass, or a complete newcomer.I’m coming from playing pianos and Hammond organ, as well as guitar….jazz and R&B/funk playing….and I would have much preferred a thicker neck to give more space for my hands and finger lengths.But it’s not a dainty neck by any means.The tuners on the model I got are just fine (so far). This is my first bass of any kind, but I already use a bass amp for jazz guitar on an archtop, so that’s dialed in. Just swap the strings for some fat flatwounds when I get around to it, but already it’s a trip to start in on some Paul Jackson, Jr. lines.

After purchasing the Squier Debut Stratocaster for my son, I decided to roll the dice on the Squier Debut P-Bass to see if I got as lucky.Out of the box I expected sharp/overhanging frets and issues with the action. I expected janky tuning keys. To my delight the frets were perfect. Just like with the Strat. And that same matte finish on the relatively thin neck (which I love) and the black matte body make for a great playing experience. Upon my first bit of play time with the bass the action, actually, doesn’t seem too bad. And those tuning keys seem just right to me, in my limited time (so far) with this bass.I can’t say anything definitive, at this point, regarding the action, tuning retention, or tuning accuracy but I’m going to put this bass through setup and, if there’s any glaring issues, I’ll revisit this review. If 2 months have gone by and you don’t see an edit, it’s because I didn’t find any issues and my review stands at 5 stars.This bass reminds me of my first bass guitar, an Epiphone Accu-Bass (which was just a Fender P-Bass clone). This Squier weighs noticeably less. Functionally, it’s no different than a Fender Precision, though you may want to upgrade the pickups and pots at some point in the future (if it’s necessary is debatable, unless you’re a professional, in which case why are you buying a budget line bass guitar?) The neck profile is just right for my shorter fingers, and I feel like it would be a perfect bass for someone new to the craft.The price point? I can’t see how this can be beat.My only advice would be to avoid the bundles you might see on offer with this bass. They are easy to fall for but, in my opinion, not worth the extra money. I know because, in my own excitement, I opted for a bundle which (supposedly) includes an Amp, Gig bag, strap, guitar cord, yada, yada, yada.I got a gig bag (Fender branded, so that’s neat) for an electric guitar. The bass will not fit. Fortunately, my son is in need of a decent gig bag for the previously mentioned Strat so that’s cool, I guess.The ‘amp’ is about the size of a bedside alarm clock. And it sounds like a bedside alarm clock too. It does have a headphone jack, which is how I will likely use it, but headphone ‘amps’ are all over amazon (plug them into your bass, plug headphones into them or Bluetooth) and they are relatively inexpensive.The strap just never showed upThe guitar cord, a Fender branded cord, was the only truly useful item, for me, that bundle.I really feel like you can just source better items on your own and I wish I had done that myself.

I’m a professional guitarist with a home recording studio who often finds that my self-recorded songs could use some additional bottom end, especially when I record solo demos to present to my cello partner. Of course, once my partner and I agree that a piece is best played as a duo, the cello takes care of the bottom. However, I sometimes record other musicians and produce their demo tracks. Again, while I usually serve as the session guitarist / fretted instrument sideman for these recordings, I have often thought I should have a bass guitar to round out my recording arsenal and add some clear bottom to these home recordings.I’ve been working on a project where that was exactly the case. I was going to borrow a bass from a student when I found this guitar. I figured for less than $100 I can experiment a bit by running the bass directly through the board and get some sonic feedback as to whether a bass addition works on a recording or not without breaking the bank. Either way, I figured it MIGHT be a handy piece of recording “equipment”.Boy, was I right! For this specific purpose this bass guitar fits that bill perfectly! Oh sure, the fit and finish is not perfect and it’s unplugged tone is not great and is certainly not loud enough. But, recording directly through a board sounds fantastic. I am both shocked and pleased.To be clear, I am NOT a bass player and thus I would never use this thing as a piece of performance gear. And if I were a bass player, I’d probably looking for other options. But, as said, as a piece of recording gear this instrument would be hard to beat for the price.With these specific caveats, buy with confidence.UPDATE: Continuing to experiment with this bass in a “direct to recording board” way, I notice a significant hum. I put a Baggs Venue in the chain so that I could use a balanced XLR into the board and the hum remains. I think it’s a grounding issue. I can greatly reduce the hum by knocking back the gain quite a bit and then restoring the volume in post. I’ll keep updating as I experiment further.Final update:I’m saying good goodbye to this one. I never did find the source of the hum but suspect it’s a ground shield problem. I could probably work around it but my original thought was to keep things very simple and simple means direct-to-board recording. This, I cannot do. We’re it not for that reason, I would be rating the bass highly for its size and scale length, its easy-ish action, etc. Instead it’s on its way to a player that doesn’t have my specific requirements.

IMPORTANT!! THIS BASS IS 30″ FROM BRIDGE TO NUT. This was an important bit of info that I could NOT find reading about it. I scanned the reviews, and I thought I saw “short scale” somewhere, but this info needs to be in the description! As luck would have it, short scale is what I wanted. I’ve got a 35″ scale 5 string and I cannot play it, it’s too long. This one is great! Happy, happy, happy.Bass lessons this year for my 11 year-old, and I was wanting something inexpensive. This thing popped up, and being acoustic, it’s something that can be used without running up my electric bill.I’m glad I took the chance!I just unboxed it a few minutes ago, and it only needed tuning. The action is actually pretty darn good as is. I might fiddle with it a bit, but I didn’t receive a truss rod adjustment tool. May not need it. The neck is straight! Unexpectedly good. The strings are probably going to be replaced, but for learnin’ they’re fine.Finish: Pretty good! Mine has tiny, minute scratches, so little I don’t care. Other than that, there is a tiny blemish on the sound hole. I’m pleased, esp. for the low low dollars. I haven’t done a detailed examination of the neck, but I didn’t see anything obviously bad, finish-wise. Only one strap button, as mentioned by numerous other reviewers.Sound: pretty good acoustically. I’ve not played acoustic basses very much at all, so I don’t have a lot to compare to. I would say the E and A strings are just a hair quieter than the D and G, but that goes with the bass territory. Those frequencies are harder to discern than the higher frequencies. I wouldn’t say it’s loud by any stretch, but it is nowhere near as dead or quiet as I expected it to be! Thumbs up on that. Also, being a short scale, I expect the lower notes to get a bit rubbery or dead-ish relatively. Just gotta thump ’em a bit more, I suppose.So we get it plugged in… just wow! I’m truly shocked at the sound. I started with everything flat, experimented with each EQ slider (amp EQ flat). I settled for just a bit of low boost, mid cut, and high boost with the volume about half-way or just a bit more, this thing sounds GREAT! I can’t wait to try some better strings on it. The low end is big and fat.Overall, it is NOT an expensive bass, and I didn’t expect it to be. But for under $100, this is a steal. If I’d bought a “name brand” for $250 or more, I’d be giving this perhaps less stars, but this is an unbelievable value. If it gets busted, I’m buying another one. In a heartbeat.

For the price point and for what you you get, it’s really not bad overall. The sound unamped is decent. It’s much louder amped. I am going to try a better set of strings to see if unamped sound is any better. The instrument looks nice, I bought the sunburst finish. Neck has a pretty good feel to it. I did tweak the truss rod to my liking, easy enough to do. The only area where it falls the most short for me is the tuning posts, they seem a bit cheap and the bass seems to have a bit of difficulty staying in tune.UPDATE: I changed the strings with a set of Ernie Ball acoustic bass strings, definitely sounds a little better. A little more tweaking of the neck! The tuning post seems to be ok after all so I am changing my original 3 star review to 4 stars, you can’t beat it for the price

It is simply amazing how far these instruments have come. I bought this product years ago and i honestly thought it was garbage. Decided to try it again and am so glad I did. Got mine in the aged natural finish as can be seen in the photos. Was an even sweeter deal than the others at 99 bucks. This bass barely even required a set up being that all I had to do was adjust the truss rod slightly cause I was getting a little bit of string buzz but other than that it is perfect and the sound is incredible. This thing is an unbeatable deal. Even came with a nice lightly padded case and far exceeded my expectations. The only thing I can think that may be able to be improved upon is that there is a very slight vibration from the 9 volt battery (if you install one) while playing the strings. Besides that this instrument is a gem that can easily compete with or surpass entry level instruments at any major music store.

Actuall not a bad acoustic bass for the price. I haven’t plugged it in yet but that’s not why bought it.

I’m a guitarist and I wanted to try something new, so I bought this in July and I have had almost no issues with it. Let’s start off with the looks. Although it’s a Fender jazz bass copy, I absolutely adore the look of this one in particular. The burst looks beautiful and the wooden grain is gorgeous. The fretboard looks really nice and the frets look alright, but they could use some work because they’re a little sharp. I was never a big fan of the glarry logo and their headstock shape, but it looks alright on this model. Unfortunately, the staining or finish on the headstock isnt even and has some splotches on it. It holds tune really well and the tuning keys are alright. I had to do nothing to bass because it was well setup from the factory. I’m still rocking the original strings as I do not play it that often, but I’m getting more into it now. The pickups sound good but could use an upgrade if you really wanted to. There are some cons with this bass too. The gig bag is cheap and the headstock is a bit too long to fit inside comfortably, which caused the bag to rip at the top. It barely fits in a Fender gig bag too, so I would try and get a longer gig bag if they make them, but I haven’t bothered because it spends most of its time in my room. The output jack became loose over time, so I decided to tighten it up. It just spun and eventually the ground wire broke off. A quick solder and she was back at work. The included strap is cheap and I wouldn’t even put it near this bass or any of my guitars, but it would work fine if it’s the only thing you have. The included cable is like any other cheap throw-in-the-box cable, so I would find a nicer cable asap. The tools are ok but I never had to use them. Packaging was solid and she came to my house safely. All in all, I think this bass is well worth the money and it’s a great buy for someone who’s a beginner or an experienced player who needs something cheap to take to gigs. I don’t know what more to say other than, for the price, this is a definite deal! I purchased this purely for home recording and I am happy with it. It looks really nice, is surprisingly light and sounds pretty decent in recordings, a little muddy perhaps but that’s easily fixed with an EQThe only thing I noticed was a couple of the pots produced a bit of noise if turned on full, but turning them back just a fraction immediately removed the noise. The pots also don’t seem to adjust the sound particularly smoothly – it takes a few extra tweaks before any change in sound is noticed, but for this price it’s really not a big deal at all.There is also no toggle between the neck and bridge pickups – it’s all done through the pots. But again, it’s certainly not a deal breaker when you’re spending less than $100, in fact it’s amazing that it even has 2 pickups to choose from!Straight out of the box this bass played well, other than needing to be tuned it didn’t need to have anything else done to it. The action is low enough without causing buzz, I didn’t notice any intonation issues – honestly, I’m so surprised that a bass at this price actually works relatively well!

I am very happy with the finish of this guitar. I couldn’t find a flaw anywhere and the sound is totally acceptable. The POTS are low quality with little range, but 99% of the people who buy this instrument will leave them maxed out anyway so they are not a big deal.The tuners aren’t great but they are good enough, and easy to replace if needed. I’ve heard a few complaints about the neck being a bit chunky. I don’t think it is but I have big hands so you’ll need to consider that if it is going to someone with small hands.I’m going with 4 stars because the fretboard looks like wood from an orange crate that was sanded and dyed to look like Rosewood. I have several guitars with Rosewood boards and this is not the same by any stretch of the imagination. Frets are good and smooth with no noticeable fret sproutsharp edges. The nut is plastic. I’d rather have a bone nut but the plastic is fine for a beginner, and it helps keep the cost down.As you’ve probably read elsewhere, it is neck heavy due to the exceptionally light body. The neck needs a setup but I won’t knock the guitar for that. Any new guitar should have a full setup done anyway.Overall, this is still a huge bargain. It looks great and sounds really nice, and anything better would cost considerably more.I totally recommend Glarry for anyone of any age wanting to learn bass guitar.

I have played the violin for many years and recently decided to pick up the bass for fun. I didn’t want an expensive instrument because I don’t know enough to justify the expense. This bass suits me perfectly. It looks great and the sound quality is fine. I have not found that there are any shortcomings with the instrument that might keep me from learning: it holds tune well, the action is fine, and nothing feels weird or awkward. I took it to a friend who plays multiple instruments in a band, and he was surprised at the quality for the price. He also noted that it was very light; I don’t know enough about basses to judge that, but I’ll take his word for it. I will probably move up to a higher quality bass some day, but for now this is great for my musical exploration and education.There are a couple of things a buyer might want to change. The strap is very basic and cheap, and I’m going to search for a better one (and one that looks cooler). The pick that comes with the bass is flimsy, so I got some better ones—this might not be an issue if you’re planning to pluck, but I need to follow my bass idol Simon Gallup and use the pick.

Excellent 1st time bass. Great strings, stays tuned and holds a tune. Amplifier that comes with it does the job. Crackles alil but has a great sound. Definitely worth the buy for anyone looking to learn. Value for money:If your unsure but want to try, buy this bass and the set. I love it!

Bought this setup for my 20something nephew who told me he loves Bass guitar. I asked if he ever played… nope… this was the perfect starter set. He loved it and thought I was an awesome uncle for the surprise.

Great bass, so glad i bought it, i bought the matte black and white version too! (3 total)We all know you don’t buy this for the practice amp — those tiny amps always sound weak since the speakers can’t handle the full range. That’s expected. The real value here is the bass itself, and it’s awesome. The gig bag is worthless, its basically a dust cover, no padding at all.The bass feels nice and light, plays clean, and I was happy to find no hum. The stock strings are pretty cheap (I’d recommend swapping them out right away), but that’s normal for budget instruments. With a decent amp, this bass really sounds good. You don’t have to spend a fortune when there are solid options like this around.I grabbed the white one and it looks amazing in person. Couldn’t be happier with it — I’m very glad I went with this bass!

Do initial setup. (The strings on mine touched the frets and buzzed at many points and the problem was the tension and height on the bridge – the neck is nice and straight.) Change the strings. Re-seat the strap anchors so that the bass doesn’t slide around and you have yourself a pretty good deal. The amp is trash but the amp isn’t the point. The bass plays really nice once you change the strings and mess with the setup.For reference, I play a high end bass as well with built in preamps and all of that. This is not that but for the price it is really really good, light and great to begin on. Looks nice too. Great finish. The humbuckers are weak as some have commented before me but it doesn’t make a difference in the practice space. I have to turn my amp to 4 instead of 3 to match the band. I think in this case, the weakness of the pickups is a boon as the pickups are a bit noisy anyway.All the little extras that come with it are cheap but helpful, the gig bag, the tools, and even the amp if you want to practice with headphones. I mean the whole thing is cheap but that’s why I bought it.

A fantastic guitar. Cant beat the price. Ive been playing bass and guitar for 20+ years at least. Have a bunch of axes..from Fender Strat,Gibson,Jackson,BC Rich, . For an inexpensive electric bass this thing kicks butt. Had no issues when it arrived, little tune up and good togo. Actually bought it for the Lightning Finish ⚡️, came out great..Go on and buy it..cant be beat. ????Ktaxon .

Bass was ok coming out of the box. I did have to make some adjustments and fixes before it was playable. Being a guitar builder, I am able to do this. But the beginner player, who this is designed for, will be disappointed. The fretwork was awful; sharp fret ends, frets weren’t leveled or polished. There was a bad buss on the 3rd open string. Usually, it’s while being fretted, but this was an open string. Only this one… strange. I had to purchase another bridge hoping that will fix the issue. We’ll see. Finish on the neck doesn’t seem like it was finish sanded. I had to knock it down with sandpaper and repolish the headstock and neck to get it smooth. Now onto the amp. It’s a small, thin 20w(?) amp, and sounds like a transistor radio. But luckily, I’m just going to use it to test wiring and such in my shop. Not an amp for gigging, by any stretch of the means. I mean, don’t get me wrong, it’s a decent package. But be aware that you might have to do some work before it’s ready to roll.

Would recommend for anyone looking for a budget friendly bass.Very pleased with the craftsmanship of this bass. Neck is straight, all frets are smooth, more C shaped like Fender necks and string spacing is similar. Action is low enough and no fret buzzing. Body is super light but doesn’t neck dive. Electronics all worked, no feedback or static, still may replace them with EMGs as I originally planned to.I do find the jack placement in relation to the strap harness to be far if you put your cable through the strap to keep it out of the way.I have 2 other basses in this price range, this is the only one I would say not only did I get my money worth, but got more than I paid for.

great bass. well it has it’s limitations. I’m a guitar player so for what it’s worth. well made. intonation is good. the action, distance the strings are from the frets, is good. good sound. I would recommend for the beginner and intermediate. I ended up putting flat wound strings on mine and Seymour duncan pick ups in it just for an upgrade. I play in a band and wanted a beefier sound. but overall it’s great. I would highly recommend it. good value for the money.

this has to be one of the best buys ive made! plays awesome after a minimal amount of bridge set up(has a slight fret buzz ). super light action, the stock pick ups are just fine and has to be the LIGHTEST bass ive ever played…my old stage go to was an Aria Pro beast, thing probably weight clove to 30 lbs but had a super fat sound that was perfect for live, never wanted to use my 57 fender p bass for live shows!! i recently got back into playing and this bass paired with the Fender Rumble amp is absolutely perfect!!

This came with a tag indicating that it had been inspected and setup at the factory. But, shipping and handling must have had an effect on it (and/or they weren’t careful at the factory) since it had multiple setup issues:- Neck curvature was incorrect (not concave enough)- E string bridge position was too low (and other strings were slightly uneven)The manual shows you how to fix the neck curvature and the tool is included in the box. The manual didn’t say how to adjust the bridge, but it was pretty easy once I found some documentation online: insert a small allen wrench into the holes on both sides of where the string enters the bridge area. Once I fixed those two issues and did basic tuning (strings were about a minor third too loose for EADG tuning), it played great! I like that it’s a bit lighter than my other bass (Squier vintage PJ) and has a flatter, slightly slimmer neck. I also like that the neck back is a smooth satin finish (vs. a sticky high-gloss finish on my Squier).Conclusion: I strongly recommend that you have an allen wrench set (w/ options around 2mm for the bridge) and a feeler gauge in order to perform setup when you get your instrument. The manual tells you proper string heights.Electronics and knobs seem fine. There is one knob that mostly stops, but you can push it a bit further. But, generally, the knobs respond as described according to the diagram at ibanez.com and changes are continuous as you’d expect.While getting the bass set up, I noticed some buzz coming out of my amp (Rumble 40). I was worried about electronics quality, but tracked the problem down to overhead lighting in the room that was on a dimmer circuit. Once I turned off those lights, the buzz went away and I got a very clean sound.I had played this model before and noticed that it was easier to play than my Squier. That’s still the case. Only two things left to decide are (1) whether to put on flatwounds, and (2) what to do with my Squier 🙂

Quite a nice looking instrument. When mine arrived it was untuneable much less playable. There was a back bow to the neck that offered no relief at the frets to most of the way up the neck.Once I adjusted the truss rod, I was able to tune up to a starting point at which time I readjusted until it tuned and played fine. I don’t know if it was the weather it went through on it’s way to me or it was just horribly setup at the factory.This is my first bass guitar. I’ve been playing guitar for a long, long time and just couldn’t resist getting this bass at the price it was listed at. As I expected there is going to be quite an adjustment to my playing as the lower frets are so far apart and so are the strings but I’m having fun discovering what it’s like to play bass. I think for the beginner bass player who doesn’t have guitar experience this is a great bass to start with. I find myself looking for the missing strings, especially that third jump between G and B, LOL. Playing guitar for so long has crippled me so far but as I said, I’m having fun. The active equalization really boosts the bass which is welcome considering I crank the treble and midrange up all the way on my amp and mostly keep the tone on the bass all the way up as well. My ear has trouble discerning the really low notes and cranking the tone and treble/midrange on the amp helps quite a bit. I was toying with the idea of trying flatwounds or just new quality strings to see what differences that might make but, overall I can’t really fault the instrument as I’m probably the biggest problem the bass itself has.As a side note – my bass didn’t come with any adjustment tools. I had a set of metric allen keys so no big deal, but you might want to get a set of your own just in case this is normal for Ibanez.

I frankly expected less, but it’s very nice and well made. It is easy to play. The action comes set low. It is fun, looks nice, has a decent variety of tones too and you can dial it in. It’s not luxury but its really good for the money and you won’t regret having bought this model. I’m sure I can noodle on it for years. Don’t forget a strap.

The neck is narrow enough for my hand and finger exercises. The pickups and sound is excellent. I love you Amazon and Ibenz. ????????????

I think this is a great Bass for the price, would be awesome if you’re just getting into playing and want something decent. Ibanez is a reputable brand. For under $500 you can’t beat it.

Great bass! Light weight and sounds really good. Smooth to play and beautiful. It could have a little more midrange. I have several basses including a Fender Precision 1986 and a Musicman and I have been using this Ibanez to play all my gigs.

I’m thrilled with it.For the new bassist: This is an outstanding bass for a person wanting to explore the instrument. The price is amazingly low and the quality high. It is a very sturdy instrument, well made and very playable. The single pickup Precision Bass (P Bass) design is a classic…simple and easy to understand. The neck is very comfortable and the sound is true.I’d only suggest two things for the new bassist. First, when it arrives you may want to have a “set up”. If that term is new to you, don’t worry. It merely means making small mechanical adjustments (using Allen wrenches, included with the bass) which make it more playable. You can search and find out to do a bass setup. Better, have a bass player show you how to do it. It will make your playing more enjoyable.Second, consider buying a new set of strings. The strings felt cheap and “gritty” to me… a decent set of bass strings will run you about $30 and will be worth it.This is a marvelous intro bass. And it’s way more in addition to this.For the experienced bassist: I’ve been playing a while but wanted a P Bass platform to get the PB sound I was looking for. I was startled to see these released via Amazon in May 2024. I was very skeptical at this price point, yet owning two MIM Fender Jazz Basses, I was intrigued. Plus, I really wanted a P Bass body but a J Bass neck…which is exactly what the Debut Series has.A couple of bass buddies whom I respect each bought one and raved about it out of the box. For $130, that was enough for me, so I ordered one.And I’m thrilled.I’ve played it nearly 20 hours now and have played in public as part of our church’s worship team. It is super comfortable to play, clearly the equal of either of my $800 JB’s. And the sound! A genuine P Bass! Listening to it on a full sound system, I was astounded to get that sound from a $130 bass. Not a single one of my bandmates suspected my bass was this inexpensive. Instead, they commented on how good it sounded in our mix. Further, several knowledgeable musicians who heard it commented on its clarity and how it added to our overall sound.Details…. I did several things but not much to modify this bass out of the box. First, I got rid of the stock strings…they felt really cheap. I replaced them with a set of Ernie Ball Cobalt Flats. Man, did that work. Flats on a P Bass is a classic set up and there is a reason it is so well regarded over the decades.Second, I heard some 60Hz hum when I first got it, so I opened up the cavity and did a full shielding with copper tape, all soldered to ground. Hum fully eliminated. Silent when unplucked, even with volume and tone knobs turned wide open.I have not messed with any other hardware. The pickups work just fine for me. The tuners are fine…smooth and hold the strings in tune, rock solid. I had zero fret issues. . I did a full set up when I got it. The neck was flat, so I had to loosen the truss rod a little over one full turn to get to my preferred 0.3mm relief. The saddles were very close to true…I only tweaked them about a quarter turn each. Great action, zero fret buzz. Intonation was spot on out of the box, I didn’t touch that.So, I got my desired P Bass-J Neck for $120 plus a new set of strings. I’ve played it for hours and it balances perfectly and the neck is a joy to play. I’m thrilled and amazed.

After purchasing the Squier Debut Stratocaster for my son, I decided to roll the dice on the Squier Debut P-Bass to see if I got as lucky.Out of the box I expected sharp/overhanging frets and issues with the action. I expected janky tuning keys. To my delight the frets were perfect. Just like with the Strat. And that same matte finish on the relatively thin neck (which I love) and the black matte body make for a great playing experience. Upon my first bit of play time with the bass the action, actually, doesn’t seem too bad. And those tuning keys seem just right to me, in my limited time (so far) with this bass.I can’t say anything definitive, at this point, regarding the action, tuning retention, or tuning accuracy but I’m going to put this bass through setup and, if there’s any glaring issues, I’ll revisit this review. If 2 months have gone by and you don’t see an edit, it’s because I didn’t find any issues and my review stands at 5 stars.This bass reminds me of my first bass guitar, an Epiphone Accu-Bass (which was just a Fender P-Bass clone). This Squier weighs noticeably less. Functionally, it’s no different than a Fender Precision, though you may want to upgrade the pickups and pots at some point in the future (if it’s necessary is debatable, unless you’re a professional, in which case why are you buying a budget line bass guitar?) The neck profile is just right for my shorter fingers, and I feel like it would be a perfect bass for someone new to the craft.The price point? I can’t see how this can be beat.My only advice would be to avoid the bundles you might see on offer with this bass. They are easy to fall for but, in my opinion, not worth the extra money. I know because, in my own excitement, I opted for a bundle which (supposedly) includes an Amp, Gig bag, strap, guitar cord, yada, yada, yada.I got a gig bag (Fender branded, so that’s neat) for an electric guitar. The bass will not fit. Fortunately, my son is in need of a decent gig bag for the previously mentioned Strat so that’s cool, I guess.The ‘amp’ is about the size of a bedside alarm clock. And it sounds like a bedside alarm clock too. It does have a headphone jack, which is how I will likely use it, but headphone ‘amps’ are all over amazon (plug them into your bass, plug headphones into them or Bluetooth) and they are relatively inexpensive.The strap just never showed upThe guitar cord, a Fender branded cord, was the only truly useful item, for me, that bundle.I really feel like you can just source better items on your own and I wish I had done that myself.

Bought this for my wife, it’s a well made beginner bass, needed a bit of setup, but sounds great now….

I’m a guitar player so I am trying a bass for the first time. Well made. Beautiful mat red finish. Very nice tuners. Fret ends need to be filed; they are rough. Not experienced on a bass but I found it is hard to avoid the strings clattering on the frets so I raised the height of the bridge mostly under the E and A strings. That solved the problem but it can get noisy if I pluck hard. I tried following a YouTube video about slapping, but I couldn’t get it to sound right. Maybe I wasn’t doing it right. The neck is very straight.

People can say what they but I’m not convinced. I previously bought a less expensive bass and it would take me so long to tune it that I was too tired to practice. It also wouldn’t hold a tune. This Fender right out the box was tuned in less than five minutes. Price does matter as often times the quality is incredibly different.

Came with everything in the description, the speaker is just right for my apartment, connections work properly, and the carrying case is perfect for a first-timer. Definitely worth the money, stays in tune, and isn’t too heavy to hold even with the guitar strap.

Love this guitar set (guitar, pick, amplifier, cord for amp., guitar strap, and guitar bag) as a beginner guitar player! With an app I downloaded, I was able to set the tones and once the tones have been set the guitar sounds great!!!! I am loving my entire purchase!!!!

Normally I play guitar. But I wanted to venture out of my comfort zone and get an electric bass. This was an excellent purchase! I LOVE the color scheme option I picked, especially when I saw it in person! Even the guys at the music shop were amazed at the quality of this Glarry! Action is a bit high, but that’s not even a downside since it can be adjusted (not that I have done so). Plays great, feels comfortable, and outside of replacing the cable it came with (a personal choice to be honest) I have no regrets! Considering all that comes with it, and the prices of just the basses out there, I am happy with it!

I was surprised at the quality of the instrument, and that it was a full size bass guitar.I had an issue with the amplifier not working. I contacted customer service and they replaced it immediately.Can’t ask for more than that for an economical entry level instrument.

Explanation: I’m wanting to make some modifications to a decent bass I already have but was hesitant because it is a good bass as is and I don’t want to mess it up. I thought buying a cheap bass to practice the mods on would be prudent, so that’s what I did. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of this Glarry bass. The set up was almost what I would have it right out of the box. Nice low action. Easy to play. Tone is much better than I was expecting. And it’s lighter than I expected. The strings aren’t great, but would be ok for younger kids starting out. And having just one tone knob makes it easy for beginners to get a tone they can work with. I caught the cyber Monday sale and picked up the complete package that included the amp thinking it would be good enough for my grandkids to play with and not be using my good one. The amp isn’t anything great, but can be adjusted to a tolerable sound. It is small and light weight so I’m not surprised that it’s a bit lacking in tone quality. But again, perfect for kids just starting out. It’s a reasonable quality set up if you have a kid wanting to try out bass before investing a lot of money or who changes their interests frequently.

I wanted to wait a minute before I wrote this review. I bought it about a month ago.It was the best thing I ever did.I can’t believe for this price.You get a full-blown amp and a bass.You can make music right off the bat.I couldn’t, but I’m trying.It is the real deal.I love this thing!

I’ve never ordered an instrument via Amazon prior to this. I generally order from SW, but we’ve had issues with the fedex guy stealing packages. Decided to take a chance on Amazon. Bass was packed in manufactures box, so no extra padding or protection. I’m glad to report the bass was delivered with care. Here are the things that are lacking. No extra instrument inspection, meaning instrument arrived out of tune, old strings, and this one surprised me, no battery! Having no battery in an active bass is wild, Yamaha could’ve at least included a generic battery. Now, with that said, after removing the strings, polish, oiled the fret board, new strings, a setup, and installing a battery, this bass plays amazingly! I may not buy something super high end from Amazon, but in all fairness they got the bass here in one piece. Lastly I believe this arrived with default .45-100 strings. I used the same gauge with the new strings I put on.

You can stop looking. If you’re ready to graduate from the $150-250 beginner range but don’t think you’re yet ready to drop a grand on a bass, this is the one. Hell, you don’t even really need to drop more on one, this is flexible enough for anything you need.Looked and felt great right out of the box. Only a very minor truss adjustment to correct a little fret buzz and I was off to the races. From this price point on up, you’d be wise to take it to a luthier (most guitar shops will have one on staff) to get it adjusted just to make sure it’s in top shape, if you haven’t done it yourself. You can learn to adjust (it isn’t difficult) but it isn’t very expensive to have it done for you, either.The active/passive pickup is a great addition and worth the step up from the 304. Once I started using it, I’m not sure how I was able to do without it for so long. The back of the body has an LED battery warning indicator so you won’t be caught flat-footed with a dead battery when you’re in active mode. It does automatically switch over to passive when it loses power, though.Don’t take the missing fifth star as criticism. I only use five stars for above and beyond. Take the fours as ringing endorsements. To address the categories Amazon asked about:As far as for beginners, you can find less expensive basses in the $150-200 range, this might be a little pricey for someone’s first instrument. The TRBX174 at about $229 (they’re still widely available as of April 2021) might suit the absolute beginner a little better at a much lower price point. That said, you definitely can’t go wrong with this one if the money isn’t a concern.Craftsmanship is top notch. This bass is made in Indonesia. I was a little squirrelly, but the construction is top notch and I found nothing to complain about. I couldn’t find any obvious flaws, and it looks, feels, and plays great. Bought this used and I’m very pleased. The bass is awesome, mint as described. Even the strings are new. I raised the action on the fourth through sixth strings because of a slight buzz and now the playability is perfectly. Intonation is perfectly. The guitar is perfect.The only reason I gave this a 4 star is because the specs said it came with a case. It didn’t. The guitar was shipped cross-country in the manufacturer’s cardboard box. Luckily, and quite shockingly, there was no damage.

This bass was set up very well and was ready to play right out of the box. It’s light and well-balanced, looks every bit as good as the pictures. The neck is just a bit wider than my 70’s Precision (4 string), but it’s thinner so is actually much easier to get around. The overall sound is good — and may be great once I find the best strings for it. The active/passive switch and the LED battery indicator are both really handy and not often found in this price range.I re-strung it for a high C tuning and changed to a lighter gauge of strings with a 0.040″ G string. Though the nut slots are much wider than I need for this setup, I haven’t experienced any problems with playability or tuning. I’ve been able to set the action fairly low, just above 2mm at the 24th fret except for the E string which needed 3mm.The total length and the body are both somewhat smaller than a Precision, and it feels really comfortable. The flip side is that finding a hard case that fits snugly is a challenge since Yamaha doesn’t sell one, and it moves around far too much in the cases I already have. But it’s totally fine in my gigbag.If there’s a weak spot for this instrument it’s the onboard EQ. I find it useful for making minor tweaks to the sound but not for any kind of radical sculpting. In particular the mid control seems to have a fairly low center frequency so I’ve not been able to use it to get a good scooped slap sound or to dial in a satisfying mid-forward sound for soloing. But I can use the amp or an outboard processor for that.I expected high quality from Yamaha, and I feel they delivered.

Bought this kit for my 21 year old grandson because he wanted to try and learn to play the bass guitar. I decided to get him a starter bass. After receiving it, I was very pleased with the bass itself. It came very well packaged and had everything in the box that was advertized. He Loves It! The only downside to this kit is the little amplifier that sounds really weak. I plugged the bass into my Fender Rumble Amp and it was like…WOW! It had a wonderful sound effect with a better amp!! So, he’s already learned to play a couple songs through YouTube. I think he will get an upgraded amp for Christmas. Overall, it’s a great starter bass kit for beginners.

I got this for my son as a starter bass, and it was a good buy. Required minimal setup. Has good tone. Playable right out of the box (after tuning, of course). Looks sharp. I have a Glarry bass, and I strongly suspect that these were made in the same factory. Everything is identical to mine, including the headstock design. It is an excellent value.The only downside to this package is that the amp that comes with it is absolutely not designed to be a bass amp and is relatively useless, so you will need to purchase an actual bass amp.

OMG! This bass is FENOMENAL especially for the price.It is just as good or even a bit better than my Gibson, Ibanez and some of my other bass guitars, (11total), that I own.The quality is great.The finish is great.The neck is outstanding, especially with the super glide satin finish for fast and easy playing.The pickups are just fine but an upgrade will surely help to make this even better.The practice amp is very adequate for the beginners and for playing in the house where you do not need very loud volume. I hooked up the bass to my Marshall head and the bass preformed beautifully.Out of the box the only thing that I had to do with this bass was to tune it, set the action and adjust the intonation on the E string.Beginners and experienced players definitely should get this bass.

perfect for what I need to do. got it set up through a DAW as well, pretty easy. the amp, well you’ll probably want a bigger one later down the line but for recording on the computer this is just what i needed. I am so satisfied with this product.

Honestly I’m shocked how good this is.Cons first:-There are a few small scuffed spots on parts of the body that aren’t very noticeable in the first place but would definitely buff out. The polish/sanding on the beveled edge looks rushed and has some lines that, again, I think will buff out nicely.-The fretboard was DRY and the frets were a little gross. I immediately loosened the strings and went to town on the fretboard with oil and did my best to polish the frets. It looks great now!-Action was playable for me but seems high. I’m new to bass though, so I can’t tell how far off it really is.-You can tell some of the hardware is pretty cheap, but what else would you expect at this price point?-Amp is low build quality. Feels cheap. Short power cable.-Cable isn’t great but works.-Extremely low end accessories. Pick, capo, allen wrenches, strap, and gig bag are all bottom of the barrel but functional.PROS:-Feels great in the hands-Inlays and pick guard are tasteful in-person.-Headstock, neck, and fretboard were in pretty much perfect condition. The neck is unfinished which could be a con for some, but I’m going to modify and paint this guitar for fun.-Tuning gears feel a little light and cheap, but are smooth and tight.-Knobs aren’t top of the line but shocked me with their premium feel.-Strings: Feel pretty good to me. I always change guitar strings immediately on a new 6-string guitar, but these bass strings seem fine to me! I’ll change them when I feel like it to sanity check myself.-Amp works and sounds good. Pretty good volume too. Slight hum without the instrument plugged in that seems to go away once playing. Cable isn’t the worst I’ve ever seen.-Accesories: They work! They’re JUST good enough that I won’t call them complete junk, but they’re on the line.Summary:As someone who’s dabbling in bass I’m glad I got the kit. The accessories, though cheap, cannot be had at this price point any other way, and they get the job done. With a coupon I was able to get the black one for $102 before tax. Just the bass was $90. $11 for an amp, capo, and some other goodies is a no-brainer for someone who doesn’t want to fully commit to bass yet. I LOVE that is has no name on the headstock. I’d much rather have no name than a name people look down on or haven’t heard of.I’m going to use this inexpensive bass to do my first custom paint job without worrying about damaging a desirable model. Maybe I’ll mod or upgrade it someday too, but it sounds really good to me exactly as it is. I’m blown away that even after our dictator has ruined everything we’re still able to get some cheap high quality products for now. Buy while you still can.

I bought this because I liked the blue/green color, the white perloid pickguard, and the white inlays on the fretboard. I also liked the symmetrical body shape, and the fact that the pickups are Precision/Jazz (PJ). The only ingredient missing is that it’s not short scale like I prefer. But I can tolerate that. It sounds decent enough, and one thing that really suprised me is that the entire package that came is so small and light.The accessories — the amp, gig bag, strap, and power cord, are all rather inexpensive and cheap feeling, but what do you expect for $100? I didn’t buy the bass for these add-ons, so their cheap feel didn’t affect my rating.The gig bag fits the bass, unlike the Glarry short scale bass I also purchased and made into a piccolo bass.I needed to adjust the intonation and like many basses I own, the bass has a lot of fret buzz on the Low #’s F, F#, and G on the first, second, and third frets. But this buzz doesn’t come through the amp, fortunately. I will probably play with the action and saddle height to see if I can get rid of the buzz, but I am still happy with the bass overall, particularly for the price I paid.By the way, I am a former semi-pro bass player who gigged regularly until Covid hit. I also build instruments. Through my building, I learned how “similar” cheap and expensive basses and guitars are. I believe there is a lot of hype about brands, and I am happy to use low-end basses for recording and also performing live for paying customers. The major difference is in the sound of the pickups and how well the instrument plays due to its setup. Another thing to consider is hum — this bass does have hum like all other single coil pickups. If you want to get rid of it, you would have to replace the pickups with humbuckers and sheild the bass.Overall, a nice addition to my growing collection of basses, and one that I love to just look at as it hangs on the wall of my music room.
