  • There is no one like Lauryn
This album from Lauren is essential for a rap collection especially since a mint album for $20-25 is more than decent. Her unique genre reminds me of a cross between rap, negro spirituals, soul, and philosophical pop.

This album was released in 1998, a very good year for music. It was a huge success, but it has taken me nearly 15 years to give it my full attention. And I’m glad that I finally did!Since Lauryn Hill was responsible for the bulk of the writing, arranging, producing and performing, this has to be considered her creation, and so most of the credit for its success is hers. The three main elements she employs are rap, soul singing and R&B music, both old and new, used in various combinations and to various degrees, with other elements thrown in for extra spice. “Lost Ones” is a strong, confident rap (“My emancipation don’t fit your equation…You might win some but you just lost one”), but it includes some harmonized singing of the choruses as well. “Ex-Factor” is a somber ballad, with the vocal high and vulnerable as the singer pleads for fairness and “reciprocity” in a relationship. Two other somber ballads are “When It Hurts So Bad” and “I Used To Love Him”. In the latter, she finds redemption and announces, “Father you saved me and showed me that life/Was much more than being some foolish man’s wife”. In “To Zion”, hip-hop blends with Latin sounds, with some help from Carlos Santana, as she expresses joy over the birth of her son. “Doo Wop” mixes rap with retro R&B, and includes the memorable hook about “…that thing, that thing, that thiiiing…”. “Superstar” references the Doors hit “Light My Fire”, with harmonizing voices alternating with a single gospel voice against a background of a hip-hop arrangement which features a harp, of all things. She chides the superstar: “Come on baby light my fire/Everything you drop is so tired/Music is supposed to inspire/How come we ain’t gettin’ no higher”. “Forgive Them Father” is a mid-tempo, very serious song about false motivations and betrayal by those close to you. One memorable line in the song is “Like Cain and Abel, Caesar and Brutus, Jesus and Judas, back stabbers do this”. There is a rap in the middle of the song, and we get to hear some Jamaican patois at the beginning and at the end. “Every Ghetto, Every City” is a bit lighter and funkier as Lauryn reminisces about good times from back in the day. “Everything Is Everything” is dramatically serious, meant as encouragement to persevere in life’s struggles: “Everything is everything/What is meant to be, will be/After winter, must come spring/Change, it comes eventually.”Whether this sequence was deliberate or not, the last listed track and the two bonus (hidden) tracks are all 3 positive in mood and pretty mainstream in sound. “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill” is a comparatively bright-sounding ballad. The cover of “Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You” is faster than the original, but that fits in with the hip-hop arrangement and happy vibe. “Tell Him” is practically a breezy pop song with a hip-hop beat.To emphasize the theme of (mis)education, there are interludes between the musical tracks in which we hear interaction between a teacher and some students. But I think that we, the public, are the ones truly enlightened by this album.

  • Fantastic record
the first song “IGOR’S THEME” is a little warped, and the full piano outro doesn’t play. It could be a manufactured defect. apart from that, this album is a masterpiece in its own way, and is definitely a 10/10 album. The LP itself sounds fantastic, and this is a must have for Tyler fans or Vinyl collectors in general.

My niece has an older car and loves CD’s but she was having a heck of a time finding this particular CD around where she lived. She was visiting and was helping me out a lot so I decided to get this for her. She was so excited when I got it for her. She doesn’t get excited easily and so I was surprised at how excited she got with this CD. Not my type of music at all but she loves it and that’s what matters.

  • Drake has made it
I haven’t been a huge fan of Drake. Out of the songs that I had listened to on the radio, I just thought he was OK. Maybe another one hit wonder. I did like his song “Successful” from his mixtape but that was about it.I had seen some good reviews on this album though and when I saw the $5 download on Amazon, I got it. I love all the slow, easy listening songs on this album, way better than what’s on the radio. I can’t pinpoint what exactly about his rapping style that I like but I guess its just smooth and sleek. I also looked up the wikipedia page for the album, so many producers worked on this album and it shows. This is one of the best rap albums of the year, or at least best produced, almost, just almost like a Kanye West album. I feel like I can relate to a lot of what his songs are about.* Note: The Motto didn’t come on the download, so I might just have to download it at an extra costBest songs:- The Ride, I like how he goes in and out of first person / third person. You don’t know if he’s talking about himself or someone else (at first). I feel that he did this to better explain what he’s going through by looking at his life from the outside- Lord Knows, Rick Ross really makes this a stand out song. It almost sounds like a Kanye song with the choir background singing. I can’t get enough of this song. One of the best produced songs on the album.- Hyfr, Everyone’s heard this song. Its just a good party song, when you just want have a good time. The chorus will stay in your head for an entire week Hell Yeah, Hell Yeah Hell Yeah, Effin Right…
  • Is this album good? HYFR!
These days, Drake has turned into a man that is either loved or hated. First of all, people dislike him for his ability to balance singing and rapping in his songs. Lets be honest – some flat out hate it and wish he would choose one. But his real fans know no choice has to nor should be made. Drake is talented in both worlds, and he best says “F you” to his haters in “Lord Knows” ft. Rick Ross. Those of you who have listened to this song know EXACTLY to what I am referencing.”Take Care” has been a project carefully crafted over the past year by Drake. It’s about his life, who he is, what he experiences and he allows the listener to take a glimpse into his world. Its a refreshing break from those rap artists who are constantly spitting lines about drug dealing, threatening to kill other dudes or steal their girls. Drake is a genre of his own. There are not many other artists who can be compared to him – which is one thing I appreciate about his artistry. He gives music that is completely relatable and he is endlessly quotable.I recommend this album to anyone with a brain, and anyone who is able to appreciate good music. There are a lot of great songs on this album. My favorites are most certainly:Under Ground KingsBuried Alive InterludeOver My Dead BodyCrew LoveTake CareThe LoveDoing It WrongI do have a couple of issues with this album. I do have to say my least favorite is “Practice.” I think its an awkward way to end an album (if you didn’t purchase the deluxe edition). “The Ride” (bonus track) would have been more suitable and “Practice” should have been offered as a bonus. Also, Birdman’s contribution to “We’ll Be Fine” is well… not fine.
  • no contest…
Drake’s best album by any measure. Introspective, vulnerable, “overdosed on confidence” and plenty of swagger to boot. This is the album Drake should have named “Nothing Was The Same” cause he hasn’t come close to anything this confessional and soul searching since this album. On the one hand I’m not gonna blame him; you’re not gonna land a half a billion $ contract making music this thoughtful and mature in today’s music environment. It is what it is I guess. But if you ever wanna peek behind the multi platinum hits Drake of today and get a semblance of the artist; this is the album that will take you there.
  • classic album
classic album sounds really good on vinyl
  • Great sound
Plays great. No issues and great album
  • Warped and gatefold doesn’t close
Both LPs came warped and the gatefold is always half open, but the sound quality is nice.
  • Good
Item came fast and not broken! This is honest may the first time I have received a CD from Amazon that didn’t come in a cracked case????
  • Worth it
Came all in one piece and works love the album

  • Worked and sounds great!
Worked great and got here fast! Truly one of Lamar’s best albums
  • Album of the Year Contendor
Kenny hit it out of the park with this one. From the strong production, to the insane lyrical prowess, to the double entendres, this album has it all. This is a must have album in any hip hop collection. In the age of digital streaming, I think it’s important to own your media. Does it make sense to purchase every single piece of media you want to listen to individually? Definitely not, but when an album comes out where almost every song could’ve stood on its own as a single, owning the physical media to go along with it actually makes sense from a value proposition.
  • Great to sing with no words
    Great CD of worship music
  • GNX
    Excellent CD! Love, love, love!
  • I’ve never seen this level of petty
Excellent album from start to finish, which is what I expected from Kendrick. What I didn’t expect was for the album to be so radio friendly. This isn’t like his previous records. He obviously wanted to prove a point, that he could play the radio friendly hit maker at any time. That’s doesn’t appear to be a motivating factor for Kendrick, and one of the many reasons I admire him as an artist. Not one track from the beef leading up to this album made the cut. That’s why this album is one of the most petty, (he put a Made in Canada sticker on the back of my vinyl), and beautiful things I’ve had the pleasure of seeing play out in real time. Please, sir, can I have some more?
  • Na
The CD is in perfect condition.
  • Fire!!!
Love this album. Sounds quality is great.
  • Kendrick’s album is great! Amazon’s packaging used to ship it was NOT
Great album, multiple replays, definitely worth the buy!I’m liking that physical media seems to be becoming mainstream again. I’m tired of having access to music but only by endlessly being subscribed to things and not having my music if my phone is dead!I only took one star away because of the packaging that amazon used. My cd case came cracked and one of the little nubs that holds the CD in place was broken off and loose. It came in a slim bubble envelope and it probably should’ve been thicker bubble packaging or in a small box with protection surrounding it. The CD itself wasn’t scratched and played without issues so far though.

  • A Final Goodbye From Mac
Although this album was never intended to be one, it feels strangely as if this is Mac’s goodbye; his untimely and devastating passing occured before Circles could even be finished. Mac’s vision for Circles was as a companion to Swimming, the final album he released while living. Even though Circles was unfinished at the time of Mac’s passing, Jon Brion, a close collaborator and friend of Mac, took on the difficult task of filling in the missing pieces and completing the project. This could have gone in any direction besides good, but Brion fulfilled the vision of Circles in an incredibly beautiful way.Sometimes I wonder what Circles would have been like if Mac were still alive to have finished it himself; I suppose we will never know. What I do know however, is that Mac’s death brings an entirely different meaning to the music. As the title of the album suggests, this album ties everything together and brings his entire legacy back around “full circle”. This is the epilogue of Mac Miller’s music (and life), and brings a sense of finality to his story.I can’t lie, as amazing as this album can be, it’s also heartbreaking and difficult to listen to at times. The emotional depth of Mac’s pleas for help shine brightly (or dimly, more accurately put) on Circles, only it’s too late to save him; by the time this album was released, Mac had already passed. The culmination of subtle allusions to a young death, sprinkled througout his earlier works, ultimately lead to what was foreshadowed all along. Mac was telling us the ending the entire time, and that’s why Circles hurts us even deeper. In all the ways that this album hurts to listen to however, Mac left us with a strong finish, and arguably one of, if not his best work. Some of his greatest pieces were realized on this album, and it’s hard to deny the power that his voice had. I frequently return to Circles, and when I do, I’m reminded of the brilliance that Mac Miller was. It’s painful to know that his incredible soul is gone, but in a way it will live on forever.
  • Good review
Was delivered quickly with packaged very nicely no damage to the outside sleeve had a great price would definitely go through seller again
  • Absolutely amazing
Great condition, best album of his in my opinion so sad he’s gone but he lives forever in his music ❤️
  • LOVE IT
My absolute favorite album from Mac Miller. Love having a vinyl to have long- term. It means a little more than just music on my phone.Love your amazing voice Mac Miller.R.I.P.
  • Well…
It sounds beautiful EXCEPT on 2A during the beginning of track 10 it does skip. All other sides; 1A, 1B, and 2B worked skip free. I really am still happy with my purchase though! The vinyls are beautiful. Plus you get the awesome poster/track list inside as well (I love cool stuff like that so big ups from me dog).
  • Almost brought me to tears
I’ve never been one to cry during movies or when listening to sad songs but this album made me tear up. It’s been over a year since I first fell in love with it. I was never a Mac Miller fan, didn’t listen to his music until after he died and then I didn’t like any of it. Didn’t like his previous release “swimming” on the first listen, but then this dropped, and the first listen had me tearing up. Never knew I could feel so sad for someone I’d never met. I felt so much emotion in his raspy but passionate singing, and the lyrics hit hard when I let them sit with me. After listening to Circles I went back to later enjoy swimming and a lot of his other music. I hate that I overlooked Mac Miller when he was alive but I’m appreciating him now. I can confidently say this is my favorite album of all time, I don’t think I’ve heard anything better than this. The vinyl is great too xD

What Customers Say:

  • Stone-cold classic
One of the best debut albums of all time from any artist. Just a quick note, though, this version of the album is missing most of the skits, and also the song I’ll Fly Away, which was honestly a little disappointing for me.Also, Jesus Walks no longer transitions into Never Let Me Down. They’re both on different sides now, which is a little odd.Very minor notes though and it really doesn’t affect my enjoyment of the album at all. It’s still amazing.
  • Five Stars
Great Quality and SelectionThe CDs arrived in excellent condition with no scratches or playback issues. Each one played clearly and delivered great sound quality. The selection offered exactly what I was looking for, and it’s always a plus to have physical copies for collection and reliable playback. Whether for casual listening or adding to a music library, these CDs were a great buy. Very satisfied with the overall purchase.
  • Great vinyl looks and sounds amazing
Bought this for Christmas for a family friend they loved it! Great quality and clean packaging
  • Still Sounds Fresh After 18 Years
Before I received the record, I would assume I’d be getting the new repressing of the album and not the original. As it turns out, I got the complete opposite and I am now a proud owner of the original pressing of this classic.Once I played the record, it all sounded like it would be played via the digital version. Absolutely insanely good quality sound. The beats are not compressed nor are the instrumentals and choir throughout the album, while Kanye and company sound loud and clear through my headphones. Little to no pops and cracks were heard throughout the album, both discs as a matter of fact. (Due make sure to soft wash the records before playing as it can help reduce pops and cracks for some who have brought the issue up.)The only complaint I have is that they took off the skits and a couple other sounds that could have made the album complete like on the other versions. However, the reason it is cut short is primarily due to space within the records, and could have made the quality reduced just a bit if they were added. Otherwise, if that doesn’t bother you as much and all you care about are full length songs, then this is something should have in your collection. (Reviewed 2022)Sound Quality: 4.5/5Packaging: 5/5Album Quality: 5/5
  • great album
    too bad he went crazy
  • Kanye West delivers a solid album
By producing hit songs for artists such as Twista, Alicia Keys, and most notably Jay-Z, Kanye West has established quite a buzz around himself. He has even enticed the people who jock G-Unit’s boring music to listen to this positive album.Intro – The album starts off with a funny intro from Kanye’s friend Deray who sounds very similiar to Bernie Mac.We Don’t Care – The beat and the chorus are addictive. Kanye’s subject matter on this track is uplifting for black people. This is the kind of stuff kids should listen to instead of G-Unit.Graduation Day – Another funny skitAll Falls Down – A great track featuring Syleena Johnson on the chorus. On this track Kanye talks about people who are self-conscious. I can feel Kanye on this song where he talks about how we blacks buy lots of clothes at high prices that we don’t really need and that’s one of the reasons why we end up broke so often.I’ll Fly Away – PointlessSpaceship – Addictive track featuring GLC and Consequence. This is one of the songs on the album I can see myself still listening to 6 months from now.Jesus Walks – This track has some of Kanye’s best subject matter on the whole album. Very few mcs are willing to rap about Jesus on a song and plus Kanye plans to make this track his 3rd single and video.Never Let Me Down – This is my 2nd favorite song on the entire album. The production is great. Jay-Z starts the track off with a fiery verse and then Kanye gets more introspective on his. This is quite possibly the best verse Kanye has ever wrote. J. Ivy delivers spoken word and then Jay-Z adds a freestyle to the end of the song as a bonus for those who bought the REAL album and not the internet nerds who downloaded it.Get ‘Em High – This track features one of my favorite mcs Common. Kanye carries on a conversation with a girl through his verse and Kweli spits over the phone. Common’s verse is the real gem here though. Newjacks should pay close attention to this verse.Workout Plan – weak skitNew Workout Plan – This song was okay when I first heard it but now the beat annoys me a lot. Kanye has a good theme about goldiggers on this song but I find myself skipping this song lately.Slow Jams – A great single. You’ve all heard it by now.Breathe in Breathe Out – This is the other weak song on the album. It would have been much better if Ludacris would have had a verse.School Spirit (skit) – zzzzSchool Spirit – This song is okay but nothing specialLil’ Jimmy Skit – Kanye seems to have a lot of hatred for college. You’ll see while listening to this skit. Two Words – Another of my favorite songs on the disc. Even though I heard this song over a year ago, it’s still fresh to me and Mos Def’s verse is pure fire. While Kanye’s is decent and Freeway’s is too short. Miri Ben Ari does a good job on the violins at the end of this track too.Through the Wire – We’ve all heard it now, good track.Family Business – Kanye talks about his family life. I’m feeling this one.Last Call – This song has the best beat on the entire cd. Kanye spits 2 short verses and then proceeds to explain how he got his deal on Rocafella.Overall this is a pretty good album. From some of the reviews I’ve read around here though it seems that you people throw around the word “classic” way too much. The reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5 is because of Kanye’s flow. Kanye’s lyrics are pretty clever and he has great subject matter but the problem is the way he delivers it. Sometimes his rhymes come out corny and blunt. The other thing is that this album doesn’t seem to have the longevity of a classic LP. I listened to it for about 3 weeks straight after I bought it but now I find myself hardly putting it in my stereo. It’s a breath of fresh air to hip-hop as whole (only nerds constantly compare mainstream/underground). But it is by no means a classic.
  • Great choice for vinyl
This is the second copy of The College Dropout I order from Amazon. The first frame from a different company and unfortunately I had to return it because of the amount of scratches it had. This copy from this vendor was in perfect condition and came in a timely manner
  • If you like the album you’ll like the vinyl.

  • A must have
Having bought this album on CD the year it was released, I wasn’t very interesting in having it on vinyl. I said what the heck, though, when I saw it was for less than $20.If you’re a fan of contemporary music, you know this album is a classic so my review isn’t of that. I’m here to convince you to get it on vinyl. If you’re just starting your collection, or if you’re a vinyl aficionado, this is a great pressing to have. There aren’t any booklets or inserts or lyrics or anything, but the pressing is quiet and punchy throughout. I had no audio issues whatsoever. It’s a double vinyl with three-four tracks on each side. My only “complaint” is that the vinyl themselves aren’t very thick.I know there’s 10 year anniversary edition recently released. At the price that I see it, I’m sure the vinyl are heavier and there is probably more thought that went into the packaging of the whole thing. But, if like me, you don’t see where it’s necessary to spend almost $40 on that, then I highly recommend this.
  • Kendricks best album
It’s like Quentin Tarantino movie with the pieces of the story out of order, but the message and the sentimental value still being there. Every line, lyric, is delivered with emphasis and conveys an emotion or drives the narrative forward. This story is the story of Kendrick Lamar, and what an inspiring story this is. The album is worth the purchase in my opinion.
  • Kendrick Lamar >
There may be a couple scratches bc it’s skipping at the start, but other than that it came in good condition
