Like most people of my generation, I grew up watching A Charlie Brown Christmas every year when it came on. I never thought anything of the soundtrack beyond its function as background music to the story. So it’s a surprise to hear it by itself without the cartoon, as pure music.It never occurred to me that this isn’t just background music; it’s jazz. To be sure, it’s nothing like Eric Dolphy or Ornette Coleman. Vince Guaraldi isn’t interested in challenging the listener or opening their mind. But it is surprising to hear how balanced and well-constructed these compositions are. I never noticed anything beyond the piano line that carries the melody all those times when I watched the cartoon, but it’s very much apparent here. If this is due to the remastering, it’s a complete success. The bass and drums are here to support the piano, but they’re also important elements in their own right. I also never noticed until now how in the vocal pieces, the singers are a little flat – the way children, or really anyone who isn’t a trained singer, tend to be.Like other jazz greats, Guaraldi had a unique style, instantly recognizable from the first few notes. Far from being background music to a cartoon, this album is a classic in its own right and was fully deserving of its 2012 inclusion in the Library of Congress catalog of significant audio recordings.

I love this Christmas album, add it’s been toss on my list since childhood. This vinyl is beautiful, but I have to admit I’m disappointed in the zoetrope effect – or rather the lack of the effect. When playing the record, the at just turns into a blur and we’re unable to view it on a way that turns the art into animation… I took a video at 30 & 24 fps and neither looks right. I’m sharing the 24 fps video here as it’s marginally better than the 30 fps one

A perfect album for the holiday season. Love the zoetrope look but it is VERY difficult to see the animation without a very strong and bright strobe light or you will need A TON of lights angled perfectly and a good video camera on your phone or other device shot at a very low aperture. Sounds good just wish there was a better way to see the effect of the zoetrope.

Best Christmas album

If I were stranded on a desert island and could only bring one album, this would be it. I could listen to it for the rest of my life and still find new layers, moods, and magic in every track. It’s that good. Timeless, rich, and endlessly replayable.The CD comes in a paper sleeve, which I actually prefer. Sure, it’s not as armor-plated as a plastic jewel case, but it’s lighter, eco-friendlier, and ~ bonus ~ way less likely to arrive cracked like half my other Amazon CD orders. I’ll take a little wear over shattered plastic any day.Bottom line: this album is a masterpiece, and the packaging feels like a small nod to sustainability. Win-win.

Rather than delve into the details of Carole King’s best album that have already been stated by other reviewers, I will simply state my comments.This was one of my very favorite albums as a teen. I didn’t buy a lot, and used my babysitting money (50 cents/hour back then!) for this one along with The Carpenters, Neil Diamond, John Denver, Jim Croce, Simon & Garfunkel – that was my youth’s music! I loved Tapestry so much that when I was given an assignment in poetry class to review a record album for its lyrics, this is the one I picked.Fast forward 50+ years, and I am a Nana to a beautiful granddaughter who turns 16 next week. She is not your average 16 year old girl. Her parents are music lovers, and have introduced her to the great music of the 60s-70s, and she loves it, as well as jazz & blues, and some modern music too. She’s very selective. She gets really into the lyrics, and life stories of the writers, and loves to discuss these with me and others. She loves Simon & Garfunkel, and has asked for a CD of them and/or Paul Simon alone for her birthday. So in addition to Bridge Over Troubled Water, she is getting her own copy of Carole King’s Tapestry. I just recently bought one for myself, having lost track ov the album over the decades, and realized all over again how much this music impacted my growing up years. It’s now in my sewing room’s boom box rotation. I want the same for her – she needs to have You’ve Got a Friend memorized for her lifetime, just like I have. As well as the other wonderful pieces on this album. It’s timeless!

My mother played this album a lot on her stereo’s turntable back in the day. I fell in love with it early on. I had forgotten it until recently, when going through memories of my Mom (R.I.P.), and was happy to purchase it. It brings back a lot of good memories.

I remember this sound track from when I was a kid . It was epic then & it is epic now. Beautiful songs that are truly timeless. Nothing left to say as the music speaks for itself enjoy!

Carol King isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but most of the stuff you might of heard on the radio are on this CD, and it was quite a bit cheaper than some of the compilation CDs.My one complaint, is that the highs seem to be rolled off a bit.I don’t know if it’s the original recording, or if this was done during mastering to reduce hiss, but it’s a bit dissapointing for such a great album. Other recordings from this time don’t seem to have the same issue so I’m not sure what’s up.I knocked off one star for that.

Four songs into Side One and I am OVER THE MOON. I’ve got a full-blown audiophile setup and more than 700 albums—Tone Poet, Analogue Productions, MOFI, you name it—and this might legitimately be the most astonishing record I own. It sounds like Sinatra is standing in my living room. I’m not exaggerating. The warmth, the pitch-black background, the presence… every single thing is knocking me out. Even if you think you don’t like Sinatra (sacrilege), you owe it to yourself to hear the magic the Tone Poet wizards pulled off here. Absolutely unreal. Frank. Is. BACK. Buy this record.

Inline with all other Tone Poet remasters I have this is top quality remastering. Frank feels like he is in the room and his voice is so very palpable. Highly recommended.

A bluesy sounding record by”Ol Blue Eyes”. This was always a great recording, now given the wonderful Blue Note Tone Poet treatment. Excellent sound and vinyl. A truly magnificent addition to a vinyl collection.

A GREAT SINATRA ALBUM. Amazing sound.

This album is hauntingly beautiful. Every song is wonderfully written especially Forget Me Not. Laufey’s voice is so full of emotion you have to cry for her broken heart. My son would like to know who hurt you, Laufey? He will defend your honor.

What can I say but this is my favorite cd this year if you are on the older side of time you will appreciate the music get the cd and play it at holiday get together and people will go who is that i have to get it

I really love Laufey’s new album; it’s nearly perfect! However, I do have one issue: towards the end of the song “Sabotage,” during the climax, the music unexpectedly stops until you press the skip button. I’m not sure if its just my CD or not but either way I love it!

The album is great and the vinyl came in great condition. The vinyl is a bit more of a baby blue and not transparent, so the picture isn’t super accurate, but it looks great.

1920’s jazz, hard to find modern performances and sound. The Nighthawks are A1. He did soundtrack for Boardwalk Empire. Really fun to listen to.

If you love great Christmas music… I’d highly recommend this CD. Herb Alpert is an international treasure and at age 90 adds another wonderful collection of music to his catalog. Only wish it would have been longer…just 30 minutes but still a welcome addition to my music library

Like most people of my generation, I grew up watching A Charlie Brown Christmas every year when it came on. I never thought anything of the soundtrack beyond its function as background music to the story. So it’s a surprise to hear it by itself without the cartoon, as pure music.It never occurred to me that this isn’t just background music; it’s jazz. To be sure, it’s nothing like Eric Dolphy or Ornette Coleman. Vince Guaraldi isn’t interested in challenging the listener or opening their mind. But it is surprising to hear how balanced and well-constructed these compositions are. I never noticed anything beyond the piano line that carries the melody all those times when I watched the cartoon, but it’s very much apparent here. If this is due to the remastering, it’s a complete success. The bass and drums are here to support the piano, but they’re also important elements in their own right. I also never noticed until now how in the vocal pieces, the singers are a little flat – the way children, or really anyone who isn’t a trained singer, tend to be.Like other jazz greats, Guaraldi had a unique style, instantly recognizable from the first few notes. Far from being background music to a cartoon, this album is a classic in its own right and was fully deserving of its 2012 inclusion in the Library of Congress catalog of significant audio recordings.
