Amazing album! No issues with packaging. This came in a specific box designed for albums so there would be no bending.Beautiful album cover and sounds. Met all my expectations!
  • Long Time Fan, Very Happy Listener
About the product itself, it is in perfectly fine condition, it was packaged so securely, thank God! This was my first vinyl purchase from Amazon, I had no idea what to expect in terms of production and shipping. The vinyl looks very clean and new. It’s not scratched, it doesn’t skip, it’s not warped. The outer cover folder feels durable/high quality . It’s a thick cover and it opens like a book to show the song list. There is a white sleeve on the inside of the pocket of one of the folders, it looks like there are two pockets but 1 is glued shut bc there is only 1 Vinyl.About Jack Johnson and specifically the songs/album…I’m ABSOLUTELY in LOVE with his songs -as I was the day when I first heard him. (Which was When YouTube first began,…I recall many things. One of them being Jack Johnson, and the first song I heard of his : “Better Together “ . )As a child, back then, I Instantly loved it. I looked for more of his music… And throughout the years I always found myself coming back to “Better Together” and being so happy when I forgot and re-remembered. The message of his songs and the vibes always grounded me and reminded me who I was when I was an innocent child. The world can twist us up in cruel ways, but we don’t have to let it win. His songs are a mix of upbeat & acoustic, but also nostalgic & a bit romantic. My impression of him from his music was that he is calm, reasonable, thoughtful, peaceful, & caring. Maybe a lot of those are synonyms, I’m just so grateful and happy that one of my fav albums got delivered safe and sound !!! Thank you 🙂
  • As described, arrived quickly
Great album, we already knew we loved the songs, but the album came in good condition. Got it for my daughter with a record player for a Christmas gift.
  • Relaxing and Peaceful
This CD is one of my favorite CD’s ever! Every time I here the song ‘Better Together’ I cry. The first time I heard this song I was driving in the car with my brother and he played it for me in his first car for the first time. It was a special moment for me and I’ll never forget that moment in my life. My favorite song would have to be ‘Never Know’ because I heard it sitting on a fairy-boat ride coming home from CIMI with my class of friends and I was sitting next to my boyfriend listening to that wonderful song. It lulled me to sleep and let my mind rest and be at ease. I will also never forget how much it helped me forget all present things and just let me have some ‘me time’ as I fell asleep. I know I am being redundant but trust me, it was wonderful. I would highly recommend this CD to you. Also Jack Johnson’s voice is relxing and very unique. I have nobody to compare him to. If you end up buying this CD then I hope you enjoy this as much as I did and am.
  • Paper Case
I won’t stop saying how much these paper cases suck. It’s very hard to get the cd out. But the cd plays and has a place to be stored which is all that matters. Disc is without damage and the case is in tact. Took a while to ship out but arrived quickly once it did
  • Three for Three
Another unbelievable treasure from Jack. I’ve been a fan only since the debut of his first album, Brushfire Fairytales. I’m sure there are fans who followed him for years before the debut, but being from Connecticut I guess I was out of the loop.A friend of mine complained that this album sounded too much like his first two efforts. I say why change? I’m the biggest AC/DC fan on the planet (and I like Jack?) and they haven’t changed their style or sound in thirty years. What has it gotten them? A trip to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the utmost respect from rock legends around the world. Jack will be there, someday, too. I knew from the cathcy first song that this would be a winner, and I was right. Sticking to your guns and playing what you feel is the key to success. The only sad thing for me is the entire 11 song album is only 41 minutes. I need more and hope it doesn’t take a couple of more years for his fourth effort.Basically, if you liked JJ before, you’ll love him still. Only if you’re hoping for something “different” will you be disappointed. I say buy!
  • Warped
Fisrt one arrived warped. Second one arrived a little less warped. I gave up.
  • Beauty in simplicity
I from day one have been a huge jack johnson fan. The first time I heard the single, “Flake” I was in love. I picked up Brushfire Fairytales and was not dissapointed by the rest of his album. Every song seemed to make me want to bob my head and sing along. The lyrics were all fun, some with deeper meaning than others. I also bought On and On which I felt was a so so follow up but still enjoyable and worthy of being thrown into the mix once and a while. Then comes this third album, In Between Dreams which blows my mind with its perfectly sing alongable tunes that can only make you do one thing and that is chill. I feel the simplicity of his songs, especially on In Between Dreams, is what makes Jack Johnson so wonderful. Anyone can play three chords, but he has a style and a finesse that makes those chords just reverberate in your brain making you instantly fall in love. “Better Together” was a phenominal opener for the album with that sweet soothing voice just gliding overhead for all to enjoy. And from there it just gets better and better with quirky songs like “Bannana Pancakes”. All in all I think this might be the best jack johnson album so far and I thank him for blessing us all with it. I can only hope he keep s this up and puts out a fourth album!

  • Adrianne Writes The Most Beautiful Album, Tied With The Rest Of Her Discography (Not Clickbait)
Ordered this for my friend’s birthday for the sole reason of forcing her to listen to the whole album and not just anything and not a lot, just forever. Step one of my plan to implement proper music taste into Maggie Brinkman, complete. This vinyl is beautiful and it made me kinda wish I had a record player because literally how gorgeous???? Adrianne Lenker is so wonderful and that’s really why I’m leaving a review, how does she write like that?? Favs off the album are for starters the whole thing, but also ingydar, forwards beckon rebound, and half return are some standouts. Who am I kidding I’m obsessed with the whole thing. But yeah, wonderful purchase, would indoctrinate my friends with this again.

This was such a great team of musicians. I love all of the old classics and reminiscing about these songs. My only complaint, is that the LP was slightly warped, so I am in the process of trying to flatten it out.

  • Excellent Introduction for the Novice
When I bought my first LP (MEET THE BEATLES) fifty years ago, who knew which artists would still be relevant today? Music shaped my life and I’ve tried to instill a love of music in all of my children. I was especially successful with my youngest daughter. (Who is now 23, by the way.) With five decades’ of hindsight, I have a short list of artists that everyone needs to be exposed to. Dylan, of course, is on that list.Last year before Christmas, for about the price of a Happy Meal I got this 2-CD collection plus the free AutoRip. This woulnd up in my daughter’s Christmas stocking. At 30 tracks, this is not definitive but it does give you a representative sample of Dylan’s career from his 1963 debut THE FREEWHEELIN’ BOB DYLAN through “Things Have Changed” from the 2000 soundtrack album WONDER BOYS. [Note: THE ESSENTIAL was released in 2000, so nothing from his post-2000 releases.]You get all of his Top 10 hits “Like a Rolling Stone,” “Positively 4th Street,” “Rainy Day Women #12 and 35,” and “Lay Lady Lay,” along with key album tracks like “Maggie’s Farm,” “It’s All Over Now, Baby Blue,” “I’ll Be Your Baby Tonight,” and “You Ain’t Goin’ Nowhere.”You could go on and on about what songs should have been included/excluded on this collection. For me, this was an opportunity to give my daughter a sense of the importance of this gifted songwriter. Some of the artists that I grew up with will still be relevant in another 50 years. Dylan is one of those artists. The packaging is nothing special. An 8-page booklet. A handful of photos, two pages of album covers, and two pages of track listings/recording dates/and the album it came from. No essay, no interview, no commentary. The music speaks for itself. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
  • All inclusive collection of Dylan’s hits
The collection of Dylan’s music is outstanding and comprehensive. Can’t think of a single hit that was not included. And the music itself was a delicious dive into word craft, poetry, and nostalgia. Would have rated the product a five except it arrived in a damaged case.
  • Essential Bob Dylan
    Excellent compilation! Highly recommend.
  • Classic Dylan
    Great music as always!

  • Share his music
So glad vinyl records are back! Give John a listen, his music lives on.
  • John Denver’s GREATEST HITS
    Brandy new-love it!
  • A comparison of 3 cd releases
Essentially I’m comparing this new remastered version of this wonderful album with 2 previous cd releases. First off, this version is miles ahead of the original US release. I always did think the original was poorly mastered, or used a poor master tape, or both. Anyway, tape hiss abounds on the original and the music is rather tinny sounding, but in the remastered version hiss is almost inaudible and the tinny sound is gone, replaced with a much fuller, richer sound. There was a second cd release, however, only in Japan. They remastered it using 20 bit mapping and it, too, is miles ahead of the first US release. I’ll still give the edge to this new remastered version, although if you already have the Japanese reissue I don’t think you’ll find the new US remaster that much of an improvement to warrant purchasing. The 3 bonus tracks on this US remaster aren’t anything to write home about since they’re readily available on other releases. They’re fine songs, particularly “I Guess He’d Rather Be in Colorado,” but since John re-recorded some of the songs for this compilation I would have thought adding the original album versions of those songs, or at least some of them, would have been a more interesting move, since the new arrangements are significantly different, but they didn’t consult me. Or why not add some previously unreleased material as bonus tracks? This album still holds a place on RCA’s top selling albums of all time list, and deservedly so. I prefer the new arrangements to the old for the most part, and it’s a wonderful compilation of some of the best songs from his first six albums. If you’re buying this album for the first time, get this remastered version. You won’t regret it.
  • Memories
    good tunes!
  • Poorly Packaged
This is a nice John Denver album, and I’m happy with the music on it. I declined to give it five stars only because it was not shipped to me properly, and it arrived somewhat damaged. It was sent in “soft” packaging, along with several other hard items. Accordingly, the jewel case was cracked and broken. The CD itself seems to be okay, so I won’t bother to return it, but I would suggest not ordering this type of item along with other hard items that could break it. Amazon seems to have eliminated boxes for their packaging.
  • Excellent service
    Beautiful
  • John Denver–A Rocky Mountain Musical High
Along with volumes two and, this trilogy includes the best of John Denver’s hits. He put the Colorado Rockies on the map and is a necessary part of a seventy’s music collector. The seventies were my salad days, and after the protest music of the sixties, Denver’s music was a refreshing change. His soft ballads and love songs speak to the heart and to the land he loved. His music is iconic. His early death was tragic and a great loss to the music world. I began listening to his music, much of which he wrote himself, at the outset of his career and followed him until he seemed to lose the magic. Dreamland Express was the point when his music reflected a change in his career, as reflected in the depressingly dark themes he explores. Perhaps had he lived, he might have found his footing and produced some more of that early magic. I recommend these three albums, greatest hits volumes one, two, and three, not any of the other mixes. These have everything of importance and are the original recordings. The others have ancillary and less important works that do not speak to his best work.

Arrived quickly and in great condition, super happy with this CD and having fun with all of the songs!

  • A young David Crosby is history
Gotta love Croz. Somewhere in the past my friends had this LP in high school, college, so I heard it a lot.I guess there’s a newer, expanded version but this CD is just fine with me. The sound quality may be better on the latest version (though the sound here is pretty good—a little trebly on one or two songs, perhaps), but this is a classic. History. There will never be anyone like David Crosby. I find his songs magical and his inspiration almost divine. This music comes from somewhere greater.Crosby was the master of improv, jazzlike, hard-tinged folk-rock with custom-tuned chords, gorgeous cosmic harmonies, and rock-and-roll scat singing. “Tamalpais High” (I spent plenty of time in Mill Valley myself) is as beautiful a song as he ever wrote; “Laughing,” “What Are Their Names,” “Song with No Words”… you can just bathe in his sounds. The physical CD itself: the jewel box cover immediately fell off, and Amazon says I get a free MP3 download with the purchase of the CD, but I can’t find that under all my various Amazon music settings. Easy enough for me to just rip this so I can have it on my devices. Now that he’s gone, I just had to own this. RIP David Crosby; you were a unique soul and this is a beautiful album.
  • David Crosby’s niche of genius
Funny thing about the rock era. It celebrated freedom, but pigeonholed musicians in ways other forms would never do. David Crosby, for example: He was pigeonholed in the “singer-songwriter” category, like Neil Young, Jackson Browne or Joni Mitchell. And then was seen as somehow less than all of them, because he didn’t have that string of solo albums that made a generation weep. What David Crosby best compares to is a great jazz musician who usually appears as a sideman, but occasionally steps out front. His specialty was harmony–vocal harmony, and also on the rhythm guitar. In that role, he was unique, and brilliant. It’s impossible to think about the Byrds’ classic era without him. He’s right there, harmonizing away on timeless hits like “Mr. Tambourine Man” and “Turn Turn Turn.” His contributions as a harmony singer were every bit as important to the group’s special sound as McGuinn’s 12-string. His musical choices were never obvious; he drew upon jazz and classical influences, as well as now-obscure harmony singing groups like the Swingle Singers and the Four Freshmen. Almost as a sideline, he wrote a handful of songs for the Byrds. They were few in number, but each one stood out as a highly original composition. Songs like “Why,” “Tribal Gathering,” “I See You,” “Dolphin’s Smile,” and especially “Everybody’s Been Burned,” and the long-supressed “Triad” stand the test of time as well as any songs written in the 1960s.Okay so what about this album? As a singer/songwriter solo album, it’s very weird. Many of the songs are sung in syllables without words. Others are mere chants, repeated phrases. There are three fully realized songs with words and music, verses and choruses, and two of them, “Laughing” and “Traction in the Rain” are among his very best songs ever, accompanied by some of the most beautiful arrangements both vocally and instrumentally. The third, “Cowboy Movie,” isn’t quite at that level, but it’s got a great, psychedelic groove. But–“Blood on the Tracks” it ain’t.Judged on its own terms, however, I think this is a great album, one that is long past due for rediscovery. If you appreciate the unique talents of David Crosby as a singer, musician, writer and a scenemaker (the album is a who’s who of California hippie rock stars), this album puts his gifts on display to better effect than almost anything else his name appears on. The wordless singing on songs like “Song with No Words,” “Orleans” and “I’d Swear There Was Somebody Here” is beautiful and highly effective. The illustrious musicians play brilliantly, but humbly. Jerry Garcia is particularly amazing here, playing with almost symphonic effect on “Laughing.” You can also pick out, here and there, some great performances by Phil Lesh, Graham Nash, and Neil Young–but no one seems too impressed with themselves here. The album strikes me today as a perfect moment in time, captured for all time, and perhaps even more enjoyable today than it was back in the hippie era from which it sprung.
  • A WORK OF SHEER PROFUNDITY REMASTERED TO DELIVER A SENSE OF AWE
Catergorically one of the greatest records out of rock, and the very best of all the various CSNY efforts, this remarkable work has been incredibly remastered and restored to deliver a sense of awe. From the smeary beginnings of “Music Is Love” through the haunting paean to Christine Hinton ,”I thought there was somebody there…” this is every bit the revolution in recording that DARK SIDE OF THE MOON & SGT PEPPER were, and in many respects, for its organic fundamentals, perhaps an even greater accomplishment. The story is well told by Stephen Barncard in the accomapnying DVD interview. He was an assistant engineer on DEJA VU, who took this opportunity, at first reluctantly, to an entirely new level, one not entirely imagined even by the protean creative genius that is Crosby. It’s in the small details that make this so amazing: the blurring and phlanging of source tapes that were sonically dirty into epic western tales, the layering of polyphonic vocals that pre-date the lofty and profound works of Part, the little found sounds of setting up a recording on the fly, as it were, to capture every possible sound – a concept only Miles Davis was using at that point. In fact the collaboration between Barncard and Crosby is very much akin to the sympatico between Miles and Teo Macero. And it is just as amazing in what has been produced. As a guitar album, it also vindicates Crosby’s understated talents. Almost every note, chord and lick on this disc is by Crosby. Garcia and Lesh added pedal steel and bass, Kreutzman drums, and Joni, Slick, Nash and Young notable vocals, but all of these contributors were on a cameo basis. The main tracks all the way through were Crosby. The writing is sophisticated, the vocals incredibly powerful, and the sheer “sound” of the recording revolutionary, especially for rock. This is a high water mark in every respect.I would encourage you to pick up the DVD audio version of this release. In 5.1, as well as in the cleaned up stereo remastering, this is stunning, jaw-dropping, awe-inspiring. It wouldn’t be so were the material not the measure of the task, but since it is, this is honestly one of the CDs I hope survives for generations into the future. And the great thing, Crosby was just getting started….

  • As memories fade ….
I absolutely love this collection. Twenty two tracks / 75 minutes. No filler AT ALL. Great mixes. So why am I writing this ?Well, typically, It takes quite a bit for me to “upgrade” a greatest hits disc unless there are significant hits later released or sound quality is significantly enhanced. Both are the case here. The absolute CLASSIC collection “History” from the mid-70s is an album practically everyone I ever met owns. THAT kind of classic. 12 songs that defines their early years. But – here’s the catch – many of those songs were remixed. And so, the folks who give this upgraded collection 1 or 2 stars because the songs “don’t sound like they remember them”, well … there’s your answer. So many of us have the “History” mixes engrained in us, it’d be unnatural if the mixes on this collection DIDN’T sound different. And – bottom line – the “History” mixes are great. Normally I’d weed the old collection out of my archive since ALL the songs are now on a more complete hits package, which also includes the magnificent “You Can Do Magic”. In this case, I’m glad to keep both collections. And as to the 1 and 2 star comments about the sound being defective because “they tried to put two discs worth of sound on to one disc” …. hogwash. The disc doesn’t come near “over-burning” limits. Clocking in at 75 minutes (where a CD holds a max of 80 without over burning), this is a bountiful yet safe offering.
  • A great CD
I have enjoyed America since the 1970’s and this 22 song CD takes me back to that time. My two favorites are “A Horse With No Name” and “Ventura Highwat” but I do not fast forward through any of them and that includes “Muskrat Love” which I honestly don’t remember America releasing. But I’m not as young as I used to be. I highly recommend this CD!!
  • Old defunct band
I like some of the songs America performs.
  • Some repeats from other Greatest Hits sets
A nice collection of great hits from a great 70s rock group—lots of material to sing along with. However, most of these songs are also on other compilations. This is not a modern re-editing or remixing. it seems to be the original tracks the way you heard them on the radio.
  • Guilty pleasure alert
If you’re only going to own one America record — this is the one.Nicely sequenced. Great quality. All the hits and near-hits. Fantastic price. Sure the quality of the material fades rapidly at the end, but that’s true for any anthology for any performer that didn’t die in a fiery plane crash. In fact, after Track 14, “Woman Tonight,” only Track 18, the very dated 1970s disco-lite “You Can Do Magic,” is worth sticking around to the end for.America is, to me, a guilty pleasure. With the George Martin production and perfect harmonies, they were one of the first “next Beatles.” They certainly were not an original band. Originality is so over-rated! “Horse with No Name” is the best Neil Young song Neil Young never wrote or recorded. “I Need You” would sound just right on a pre-disco Bees Gees LP. “Don’t Cross the River” is country-rock that would make the Byrds proud. They’re a perfect mp3 player band. Load up most — maybe even all — of the first 14 tracks on the disc and you’ll be quite happy each time random mode kicks up one of these songs. (Even “Muskrat Love”! The execrable Captain & Tennille version made me forget that the America version’s actually pretty good.)
  • Nice addition to my collection
    Nice easy transaction
  • All their hits
Great to hear their music again!!

  • Amazing grinding 5 blues cover songs and 5 original songs that make you dig deep in heart .. The Cat!
I just received my copies and I love the disc first off it is soooooooooooo coool! What major art design and the CD booklet has soo much in it!! I never thought I’d hear Yusuf / Cat Stevens do the blues and some of his favorite cover songs And They happen to be some of my favorite as well. I love his rendition of “Dying to Live” and “You Are My Sunshine” with the lyric african hidden under the music in middle .. a lot of meaning in it and very original .His Vocals are better than ever hmm that deep bass dynamic and he is sharing with us quite alot to our hearts ..so be open! … he really delivers so many messages in this music about humanityand our beautiful struggle that life is .. I love “Mr. Boss Man” he is so on point with it !! He is definitely one who HAS BEEN ‘there’ to the moon and back .. and knows the blues .. toured with Jimi Hendrix and was a part of the British Invasion ..etc…. that’s depth and one can really hear it in this album. . the musical arrangements are so fierce .award winnning ….. smooth and grinding .. I can not stop listening to it. I bought a few additional copies here on Amazon for holiday gifts as well … If I could rate it 10 I would .. It has really sent me into a place of reflection and .. I like it .. it’s deep! and the song “Doors” is so deeply Encouraging to venture out in life .. as he sings it with seeking certainty .. like a testimony .. xoxxox The Blues are definitely not to be sung by people that have been drinking milk all Their life and Yusuf/Cat has thart journey that comes so deeply clear in his delivery and voice .. that we get glimpses of whats deep in his heart .. a whole new language and genre that he does so well!!! … you have to be there or be open to it from a person Who has lived it .. and The Cat has … Kudos to Rick Rubin, RT and The Cat …it’s an amazing bluesy hope mixed album !! and The Blues Legends are so proud of you Yusuf for giving your original take on the covers .. and putting some hope in there too with that spirit of yours!I higthly recommend this album!! Love and Music always.
  • A musical side of Yusuf (Cat Stevens) not seen before.
Tea for the Tillerman it is not. A musical side of Yusuf (Cat Stevens) not seen before. Some have described this album as “Cat Stevens sings the blues”. It’s more than that. Sure that blues sound is present throughout the album, but there is so much more. The album starts off with soft acoustic guitar and a mellow Cat Stevens voice. A bit of percussion kicks in, but the acoustic guitar follows you throughout the track. The second track “Big Boss Man” written by Luther Dixon and Al South reminds me of a sound much like the blues played by Steely Dan. The track “Editing Floor Blues” is a mixture of blues and guitar funk that is a treat for the ears. Yusufs take on “You Are My Sunshine” takes a simple song most of us learned when we were children and turns it into something unexpected and pleasurable. it was a treat to hear the additional verses and Yusufs bluesy take on this track. “Dying to Live” written by Edger Winter” brings back the old Cat Stevens sound. Acoustic guitar and piano with a familiar sound that will please most Cat Stevens fans. Listen carefully to the beginning of “Cat and Dog Trap” If you own a cat, you’ll swear your cat was right next to you. “The album “Izitso” featured a barking dog so it’s only fair that cats get their turn. “The Devil Came From Kansas” is a medium tempo rock song, different from the other tracks but enjoyable. The title track “Tell ’em I’m Gone” has a unique sound. While listening to it, I was racking my brain for the name of the traditional song it appears to be based on. The liner notes credit “Take this Hammer” as the traditional song arranged by Yusuf however I could swear I hear something more familiar. The last track “Doors” closes the album. It’s a hymn by Yusuf, “When the sun goes down, There’s a moon rising. When a door is closed, Somewhere there’s a door that’s opening.” A nice way to end an album.
  • A bit too short, but excellent
The good side is that, for whatever reason, this is one the most engaging of Yusef’s return CDs. Who knew that he was such a natural blues singer? I could listen to him covering tunes like this all day. The down side is, 36 minutes? In this digital CD age, that’s head-scratchingly short, when there are so many options — alternate takes, a few more covers. What’s here is good, but it leaves one hungry for more.I don’t agree with the characterization of a “warm, weathered voice.” Warm, yes. But if it’s weathered, the effect is intentional for this type of bluesy music. I can think of few artists who sound remarkably, distinctly like themselves after so many years. Perhaps part of the appeal here is that the artist Cat Stevens in the 1970s was always trying something new with each new release. And maybe it’s all the more rewarding to hear him trying something a little different instead of trying to recapture whatever it was that was Cat Stevens. When he tries to be Cat Stevens, I don’t mind it, but then I’m happy enough going back to those old albums from the 70s. This is something that does not fit into my old concept of the artist, but maybe that’s the point. It’s 2014 and it’s Yusuf Islam.

What Customers Say:

  • Excellent songs
Home Free is one of my favorite groups. I love their style, sound, and inspirational lyrics. I have most of their albums, this one being the most recent addition to my library. It is terrific! I recommend this one highly.
  • Not just for shanty fans!
I am a huge Home Free fan, but not necessarily a fan of sea shanties. I went into listening to this with an open mind, and I am so glad I did because I absolutely loved it. Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald, Mingulay Boat Song, and Parting Glass are all stunningly beautiful. Give it a chance even if you’re not sure!
