Harry K.Myers Has Done ItI challenge you to a find a more charming, genuine, loving, hilarious, and creative collection of stories anywhere. This book is hilarious and a fun read, but more than that this book is a model for aspiring writers to create, and sets the standard for self-expression, realization, or whatever you want to call it. Myers has somehow managed to capture her own experience in a way that is not only likeable but irresistible. If you have ever had an awkward moment, if you have ever felt pressured by someone, if you have ever felt ashamed for things you should not be ashamed of, and if you have ever wanted to see a story about someone learning to love themselves so they can fall in love with their soulmate, then this book is for you.

JulieLovedI loved this book. I found the different stories to be funny, heartbreaking, hopeful, and genuine and I am not sure what more you could ask someone to share. This book isn’t a beginning, middle, and end. It’s snapshots of life, the moments that make a person, and I thought it was beautiful.

Courtney Salmonconversations with ElyseFound Elyse on YouTube and enjoyed her content (especially since I also live in Nebraska). Elyse writes like she speaks in the best possible way: honest, real and a bit neurotic. Feels like you’re just chit-chatting with a friend. Also loved the illustrations.

Kristina KPVulnerable and IntentionalElyse Myers’ book is beautifully written. Every chapter feels intentional and heartfelt. Still, I found myself wishing it were longer. You can sense there are so many “in-between” stories she’s lived but hasn’t shared yet.Much of the book centers on friendship and relationships: the messiness, the humor, and the quiet ache that comes with both. The mix of hand drawn illustrations and bits of poetry adds this gentle, creative touch that feels so her.Between the lines, you can feel an undercurrent of unspoken pain, like there’s more she’s still holding close. The chapter “To Whom It May Never Concern” captures that perfectly. Maybe someday she’ll tell those untold stories. Even in what she does share, there’s honesty, warmth, and a reminder that vulnerability doesn’t always have to come wrapped in resolution. And I can’t not mention her love story with Jonas—it’s beautiful. You can see how God brings the right people into our lives at just the right time. Their story feels like a real example of God purposefully brining two people together.

earthshoesGlad You Told UsI hope the author finds this review, but we all hope that, I think. As a 60 year old grandmother, I’m pretty sure I fall into “not the expected target audience,” and I’m proud of it. I became a fan of Elyse’s social media videos a couple of years ago. In a word, she is relatable. And she speaks to a crowd of people who are grateful that someone is saying outloud what we’ve thought our whole lives.Along the way, I also discovered that she was a songwriter and singer. So I wasn’t surprised to learn that she’d written a book too.But while writing (and finishing) a book is a massive undertaking, the question remained “Did she do it well?”I couldn’t wait to find out.The answer is, she did, she really, really did.All the powerful extended sometimes achingly difficult metaphors, the stream of consciousness passages, all the analogies, the illustrations, the wonderful, relatable awkward scenes all culminate in a brilliant, easy to read book. There were so many lines, so many scenes, that I cannot quote them all. But I am probably fondest of the moments between Elyse and Jonas. He reminded me a bit of my own husband in our early days. I needed him to be exactly what he was–patient and unafraid of my brokenness and outright weirdnesses. But this is about more than just me. This is about a brilliant young author who should do this again. I hope she has her next book planned. There’s an audience out here that is listening.Tell us more!

Robert LoweryBest of Elyse MyersFinished it a day because I couldn’t put it down. The book itself is fun and adorable with little illustrations throughout. The stories are beautifully written while being endearing and relatable. I laughed and cried and can see myself rereading again.

Jessica RobinDisappointingI found it a disappointing read. I didn’t think her style translated well to the page, most of what I interpreted as charming in her online persona comes off as immature and self-indulgent in her writing. Lacked emotional resonance and I felt like it mostly just fell flat. Wanted to like it, I really did.
