  • Random Access Memories – Daft Punk
05.23.2013 – Daft Punk – Random Access Memories – Review by Trevor MeyerMozart (would be – Doin’ It Right). To me, it seems as though Mozart has been reborn, because if he were alive today, he would most definitely be avant-garde and yet, it is undeniable that he would be bound to orchestration. So here we have it, the music of the greatest composer ever to live, giving us music that is both avant-garde and with an orchestra. They have really put together an amazing ensemble of talent to help them with this album.Of course Daft Punk is all about making one move to the music, and for their theme they picked 1960’s California Cool. And it’s not that they just nailed it, but it is so much more than that.Oddly, I will begin with track #9; Beyond. Wow, what a beginning of a song. An explosion and it is masterful, DP uses the orchestra to just unleash in a sweeping exploit of power and energy. The bridge moves into a slow jam that later brings in the orchestra again. To me, it is obviously that DP is giving so many DJ’s and the likes a full score of music so that they can mix, mash and re-mix this song over and over again. The orchestra is so wonderful to have here. “The end and the beginning – love and the journey of the soul,” this song encapsulates all that is within these lyrics and it does it so through the lyrics AND the music.Daft Punk as we all know have revolutionized the world of music and continue to do so with this album, but where they top – even themselves is in their medleys. At around 3:30 in this song, I got excited, I knew that DP was setting up a new medley in-wait; it’s a nice slow bubbly bit and I hope they bridge and mix it into a “Brainwasher” bit that will give us the superfluously high and lows that we all love, look forward to and feel while at or listening to DP live. This song is so tight, it is so clean, it’s wonderful to listen to all that is (or is not) between the notes, that’s how amazing this song is.Track #1; Give Life Back to Music. The intro is definitely an intro. It sounds as though you are watching a 1960’s TV show about space exploration. The title of the song is “Give Life (Back to Music),” and right from the get, DP shows their brilliant use of less is more. As a great haiku is about showing and not telling, they start their new album with giving life. They give new life to us with wonderful music, it is – yes, a throwback to the `60’s and yet, it being DP, it is also futuristic.Track #2; The Game of Love. Well, let us get right down into it. DP is and has always been about music and making love. References like “Digital Love” (from their Discovery album) and “Make Love” (from their Human After All album) make this song “fitting.” It has a nice subtextual flow and rhythm, you shan’t be disappointed.Track #3; Giorgio by Moroder. Like “Teachers” (from their Homework album,) it has a very nice and respectful introduction from (therefore – towards) Giorgio Moroder, and after his intro the rest of the song is such a solid showing of his use of a click, manipulations of sounds and freedom from ironically a single “click,” and through that single click(ing), we get to hear DP give us a boundless expression of beautiful music.Track #4; Within. Chilly Gonzales has a wonderful solo piano introduction here that is exploratory, with much that is “said” within the keys/notes that are played, it is very clean, uniformed, playful and adheres wonderfully to the song. A great use of catharsis, where you get to explore as we all do, asking questions for and about life, ourselves and having and giving/consoling insight. I’d like to say that this emotively expressed all of high school for me, but it did more than that, as it is also moving as a 39 year old man having a great best friend in my life that I like to share whatever I can with. I cherish my wife and my best friend as I do this song.Track #5; Instant Crush. The aforementioned song resurfaced emotions of being in high school. But I mean, “Come on!,” this song is amazing. Julian Casablancas voice is, is, it is perfect, fore you could not find a better voice to fit. It is, the wonderful exploration of your high school crush when you actually get time and space alone with your early “Instant Crush.” The music is slow, soft, but has energy to it. The voice is soft and has a lowered background voice that mixes so well with the beginning pace of this song and Casablancas’ high pitched voice throughout the song is dreamy, exacting and so melodic. I believe this is my favorite song on the album (so far). But don’t be afraid to listen to this song and dance with someone else or at least sing it with your arm around the shoulder of a friend.Track #6; Lose Yourself to Dance. Pharrell Williams’ voice on this is just great, once again, it gives and adds to the song perfectly. All of the players in this song collaborate in such a way that every note is where it should be – they all shine in this fun clap-along dance song.Track #7; Touch. The robots travel, and are interested, they talk of touch, with the digitized popping voice that remembers touch. Paul Williams Jr. voice is waning or intrepid in the beginning and then it becomes more commanding as he remembers what he wants – love. Piercing, passionate love.Track #8; Get Lucky. Putting an explanation point on the point that I have been making. DP brings it all together with this 1960’s California cool, love making song. It is a fun funky song that pops, and will help get you from the dance floor to elsewhere. Ph Whilliams voice is in sync with the feel of the album and certainly leads this good luck feeling song, this will be the theme song for the summer nights for we who like getting lucky.Track #10; Motherboard. This music is so moving, now – I love the use of the orchestra, but before the orchestra starts in this music, DP shows how critical they are of themselves, their standards make them a one-off, a stand alone. They are capable and able to have and keep the big picture in mind while giving us the best with spot specific attention to details. As each instrument is introduced it gives it’s own importance and yet does not detract from the music on a whole. It is a peek around the corner, bubbly, surprised, song that is allowing you to come in, welcoming, then the orchestra tips its toe into the water, which then has a bluster that cuts through the middle of the song. It does not rip it apart to detract, it just has music on both sides of that bluster. then as that bluster continues, memories are both made and accessed from where you have been, where you want to go, and THEN it gives you a punctuation with a sizzle that gives you the freedom and boundlessness that makes people feel free and alive. It kindly walks you back to the path and lets you walk away as you like, as you please. Really moving music.Track #11; Fragments of Time. Well, before the lyrics even start, you feel either, “Damn!, I wish I had a convertible so that I could listen to this song with the top down.” Or, “I am really glad that I get to listen to this song in my car so that it can consume me as I drive down the road.” Funny enough the first line is “Driving this road down to paradise,” I mean, come on, it is just so perfect. How does DP do it? How do the let us know how to feel without even telling us with words? I don’t know, because they constantly do, and then as if to show off, they then add the lyrics. And you say to yourself – “You jerks (DP) I was just thinking that!” They are amazing, this is one of the many things that makes them so unbelieveable, their attention to details gives so much, so much to little this and that’s and yet they always give to the big picture or song in general.Doin’ it Right = MY FAVORITE TRACK ON THIS ALBUM.Track #12; Doin’ it Right. This song has a nice even flow, slow motion, the playful mix between the robot voice “doin’ it right,” and Panda Bear is as mentioned playful. It is as though the two are meshing together, and like sex, when one finishes and you know that you have done it right, the song ends with Panda Bear finishing with single bass line and the lyrics of “if – you – lose – your – way – tonight, – that’s – how – you – know – that – the – magic’s – right.” I mean, come on!, it’s so good.Track #13; Contact. This song kind of brings it all together, and while that might be a bit reaching, the song does have quite a bit going on. You will notice the drums, which sound as though they are a real drum set being played, not synth drums, but of course the synthesizer is also prevalent, the song is real and synth music, the title is “Contact,” it is at the end of the album, so it is the end, and yet the contact is the beginning. It left me wanting more, and I do want more.As I have mentioned, Mozart has been reborn, and we should appreciate this type of brilliance when it is in our presence. DP – masters of the medley – I cannot wait for DP to tour.People, I wrote such a long review because it has basically been acknowledged that only through classical music could you get or relate any human emotion that one could have. But here Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories has been able to do just that. I do not mean that every single piece of classical music should or can fill you with every emotion possible, but for whatever emotion that you feel, I am sure that there is a classical piece that can correspond to that emotion. So, what I am getting at is that DP’s RAM is moving, and it should be able to move you and once you have listened to this album, from here on out, when you may Randomly Access your Memories and when you and your emotions call upon this music – it will come as perfection as it will comme il faut.by Trevor Meyer
  • Magnificent Music. A Massive Breakthrough For Daft Punk.
Well, it finally arrived a couple days ago after pre-ordering and about a two-month wait. It’s the newly released CD by Daft Punk called “Random Access Memories,” their first new album in eight years. If you haven’t yet heard of Daft Punk, and most people haven’t, they’re two French composers whose favored musical instrument is the computer and they’ve turned out some exquisitely good music. It takes a while to get hooked, but once you do you end up owning all their albums, as I have done, plus a few interesting videos. “Random Access Memories” doesn’t sound much like Daft Punk. Let’s put it this way, if you listen to an early Ramones CD and the latest Ramones, they all sound alike except for the titles and lyrics changing. I happen to like the Ramones, I might add. However, if you listen to early Beatles and a late Beatles albums, they are so different that they are almost unrecognizable as the same group. Well, the Beatles were an extremely creative act, without question. Daft Punk is much the same way. They are two very creative musicians and their latest album sounds radically different from their earlier work. Some people may not like this. They may want Daft Punk to be Daft Punk over and over and they may thus be disappointed with this fresh new album. In any case, I’ve been listening to the CD for a couple days now and it’s time to write down a few thoughts for Amazon.First, this is a magnificent album. If, prior to listening to this recording, I had walked into a room and this CD was playing I doubt that I would have recognized that it was Daft Punk. However, my interest would certainly have been aroused as the music is outstanding. All the songs are excellent and I’m hard pressed to pick a favorite. Also, it’s in a nicely arranged format. The songs flow easily from one to the next, so nicely that I’d say the best way to listen is to just sit down and listen to the entire album. It’s real easy listening, although I hate that designation as applied to a musical genre. Easy Listening Music is dreadful!. No, I mean this CD is relaxed and melodic with wonderful vocals and some real catchy lines. I liked it at first listen and there was no period of adjustment. They call it Electronic Dance Music, but this CD is just head and shoulders above all other EDM albums, with the possible exceptions of a few deadmau5 CDs. It’s just wonderful music, that’s what it is. Other musical groups have these albums that propel them to the top, whether it’s the Beatles or the Beach Boys and then the act remains at the top for a really extended period. Well “Random Access Memories” is that breakthrough album for Daft Punk. I have no data as yet, but I fully expect this album to rise to the top of the charts and to stay there for a while. Ultimately it will be considered a classic. Trust me on this. Congrats to all you Daft Punk fans. You’re going to be hearing a lot of Daft Punk music well into the future. This album has had a lot of tender loving care. It shows. This is no quickie thrown on the market to rake in a little cash. This is a magnum opus and it’s taken over five years of meticulous work to put it together. Everything is just right. I’m a bit of an audiophile and I’d judge even the sound quality on this CD to be better than on any of their previous CDs. Likewise, this is a new record label for Daft Punk. Maybe all these little things came together to produce this ideal album. One factor in maximizing the enjoyment of listening to this disc is your sound system. the recorded sound is excellent but you need a good sound system to appreciate it. I have a 100 Watt-per-Channel Stereo System with 7 speakers including two 12-inch woofers and a powered sub-woofer. At a fairly good volume, the sound is just awesome. I also have headphones for this system, but I prefer using the speakers as you can feel the sound in addition to hearing it. Mostly I use the headphones after the neighbors have come over to complain or late at night. Some people have labeled the music as retro. I can understand, but I don’t think it’s particularly relevant. Listen carefully and you hear distant echos of disco and small combo jazz. It’s nice. Real nice. But this doesn’t mean the music is disco or jazz any more than it’s Electronic Dance Music. The music is somewhat similar to earlier Daft Punk offerings, but it’s also drastically different. Listen carefully and you can follow the framework by computer much as with their earlier music, but they’ve added a lot more acoustical instruments such as piano, guitars and drums and a selection of wonderful vocals so that the end results sound significantly less like techno or EDM music. This music has a lush, elegant and dreamy sound, but it’s still Daft Punk at the core. Let’s not worry about what genre it best fits. It’s just wonderful music. Let’s leave it at that.Oh, one other thing. This CD has had an amazing amount of hype associated with it. I’ve noticed little articles all over the place, even in the Wall Street Journal, concerning Daft Punk’s new album. Just yesterday, my latest issue of Rolling Stone Magazine arrived and a nice photo of Daft Punk was on the cover. My congrats to them for all this publicity, I think they earned it.Gary Peterson

  • A brilliant Re-Master and a perfect album
Perfect amongst many albums. I truly wish I had the cash to buy the super deluxe version, since I only allowed myself to buy A super Deluxe of “IV”.I agree with many of the comments from other reviewers who have had more experience with the LZ releases. I must admit that my main reason, other than to say I love the album, is that I have bought a lot of remasters in the last year and a half, and in talking with various people, I have got a lot of negative feedback about re-masters in general; the gist of it being that the re-master sounds like the previous releases.Well, I know the people here will say that is not true, but am I just experiencing a limited view ? The albums in this re-release series has the increased clarity and better sound that I have heard in other re-masters; the point being that being able to present audio in a better way so that the guitars, drums, bass, keyboards, etc are all easier to hear makes for a better experience ( but enough vocalizing to the choir ).Whether it is on an iPod, a 5.1 system, or an audio system that allows you to tweak output a little, this is a brilliant re-release. Music by musicians who touched the world with the artistry of the world ( at least that is the way i understood the experimentation).Listen, enjoy and love the artistry of a band that is rare.
  • You can’t go back, but this is a remaster worth having
“Houses Of The Holy” was THE Zeppelin album of my last couple years of high school. I still remember the giddy feeling I got the very first time I heard “Dancing Days” pumping through the family radio on good old WRIF. I don’t know how many times I listened to my vinyl copy, Koss Pro 4AA headphones clamped on my head, and my Mom constantly admonishing me that I’d ruin my hearing. It was the time when everyone I knew wanted to be in a rock band, and several of us acquired guitars. Led Zeppelin tunes were often frustratingly impossible to nail down, because none of us were sophisticated enough to know about alternate tunings, which Jimmy Page frequently employed.Likewise, and sadly, no one in my circle was aware of John Paul Jone’s immense contribution to Zeppelin’s sound. To us, it was all about Plant, Page and crazy Bonham. Jones was just ‘the bassist’.As the years passed and CDs overtook my growing music collection, my tastes drifted away from Rock. And when I picked up a couple of the early CDs of Zeppelin’s work for old times sake, I was very disappointed in the crappy quality of those transfers.Flash forward, and I finally got around to picking up this Deluxe remaster. Maybe Mom was right, because this still doesn’t seem to have the warmth and vibrance I remember from the vinyl – maybe it’s my hearing. However, this CD is heads and tails better than my old HOTH CD.Where’s that confounded bridge? 🙂
  • It’s Led Zeppelin
Do they even have a bad album ? NO ! Even the album that they put all their rejects on, Coda, kicks ass ! I only have one more record to buy to replace my entire Zep collection with new vinyl. Even though the old snap, crackle, pop vinyl still sounds great.

  • Great summary
This 2-disc set covers the best, but note that if it is a third-party seller, you are taking your chances. The discs were fine, but I would have thought the seller would have cleaned up the box a bit – still had sticky residue. But then again, it was very cheap.
  • Best MJ Collection
When my copy of MJ’s Number Ones got scratched last summer, I almost bought a new copy. But then a friend of mine suggested I get the Essential MJ instead. I’m glad I listened to her. Both collections are great, but the Essential MJ is MUCH more complete. Unlike the Number Ones collection, the Essential MJ includes several hits from the Jackson 5/Jacksons as well as MJ’s early solo hits Ben, Rockin Robin, and Gotta Be There. It also includes all the top 10 charting songs from Off the Wall, Thriller, and Bad.My friend was lucky and somehow got a 3-disc version of the Essential MJ, with the 3rd disc including Scream and Say Say Say. I ordered the 2-disc version from Amazon and then downloaded several other MJ songs (“I’ll be There,” “Never Can Say Good-Bye,” “Who’s Loving You?” “I Wanna Be Where you Are,” and “Dancin’ Machine” from his early work, and “Workin Day and Night,” “Say, Say, Say,” “Scream,” and “The Earth Song” from his work as an adult solo artist). Now I have three great disks with everything on them. My two daughters (ages 8 and 11) won’t let me play anything else in the car!!
  • Throw back music
Got it for my 70 year old mom, she loved it
  • great compilation in order of released singles
after the disastrous HISTORY book one, this is a huge improvement. the HISTORY album made the huge mistake of putting a very good proper EP album of new material with the cd of the classics. the classics only buried the new album, and the greatest hits cd in the package was poorly done. it left out many of his best songs. with this cd “the essential Michael Jackson”, we have his best from the Jackson 5 era all the way through invincible. the first disc is by far the stellar collection. his earlier music was brilliantly untouchable. however, as he aged as an artist, he lost some of the magic the earlier recordings had. for an awesome listen, disc one of “the essential Michael Jackson” will never disappoint. finally a proper greatest hits collection. ….and disc two is pretty darn good too!
  • +++ Excellent item, Good Price and in Perfect condition +++
+++ Excellent item, Good Price and in Perfect condition +++
  • All hail the King of Pop…. but some songs are shorter
This CD is pretty darn good if you want a buffet of most of Michael Jackson’s best work and aren’t bothered that some of the songs aren’t the original length. Starting with some great Jackson 5 songs like “I Want You Back”, “ABC” and “Rockin Robin”, you are in awe at how talented little Michael is with that huge voice as a child. You wish you were around when he was singing with the Jackson 5! After the Jackson 5 songs, you get a very good taste of some great work at the beginning of Michael’s solo career like “Ben” and a couple from The Jacksons. Several great songs that never got alot of airplay but are just as fabulous are “Off the Wall” and “Shake Your Body (Down to the Ground). Of course who can not like some of his Thriller Hits, “Human Nature”, “Billie Jean”, “Beat It”, we’ve all heard these songs a hundred times before. The version of “Wanna Be Starting Something” is short-barely 4 minutes when the orginal is six minutes…so that irritated me. Another song that is great but never made it to number one is “Another Part of Me” also used in the Captain EO film at Disneyland, which we have all seen as kids. Two songs I have never really liked are “I Just Can’t Stop Loving You” and “Leave Me Alone” are both on here and on the sleeve there is a mistake-they were not recorded in 1982. “Smooth Criminal” is the same as the version on “Number Ones”,, the radio edit. However, songs from one of my favorite albums, “Dangerous” make this album even better. The sexy “Dangerous” is in full-form, beautiful “Heal the World”, “Remember the Time” and “Will You Be There” are more examples of Michael’s great and diverse work.Unfortunately, “Jam” and “Earth song” (also from “Dangerous”) are missing along with a couple of his better songs off of his last solo release, “Invincible”, with the exception of “You Rock My World.” All in all, this CD is better than “Number Ones” because it has alot of less-known great songs from both MJ and the Jacksons, and also several of the ones that went to Number One. Good stuff and MJ will be missed greatly.
  • SIMPLY THE BEST!! A GOOD FINAL TRIBUTE TO MJ’s LEGACY!
I agree with an above poster. I didn’t buy this album to “drool” over. I wanted to listen and enjoy his music not analyze his life or even think about his passing. Just enjoy the tracks on this record. 2 songs I liked weren’t included they were , The Jacksons “Torture” and MJ’s 2001 song “2000 Watts”. But I got most of those from the net. I liked some of MJ’s songs but only knew the most popular ones prior to his passing. Since his passing and thanks to a tribute of MJ songs played on XM Satellite Radio. I now enjoy more songs than ever before. I know most think that people like me ONLY bought this record because of the hype. That isn’t true if you never liked MJ’s music than regardless of the hype you won’t all of the sudden like his music. You have to be a fan of some sort prior to his passing. Sad that it takes MJ passing for fans bring his music to a level that he never saw when he was alive. I like most (if you never owned a MJ album) wanted to have at lease one ACTUAL record of MJ’s to remember the good music he did. I’ll add that listening to “You are not alone” is very hard now knowing that MJ is gone. Knowing that he meant so much to so many! It was like his way of leaving a final message! RIP MJ
  • Great music
The cd met all my needs great music from Michael Jackson from his younger years to now. I recommend this CD to all Michael Jackson fans.

  • OUT OF PRINT COOL TO THE MAX!
lets crack it open shall we..review wise i have the USAdistribution of this..and i paid $75 for it.the alive 2007 limited-E was out of print the day it was released..1. When you get the “disk” you are greeted with literally a cd jewel case sized, 1/2 inch think hard cover book, and its a book in every sense of the word, internal fabric based binding and all! On the cover is the alive logo and stuck to it is the blue daft punk sticker, luckily the sticker is one of those super easy removable ones. As for the cover its all gloss black and made really well. The back cover features a full track listing in “alive” blue. AND for once, the copy right info on the back does not threaten you within an inch of your life!!!2. Turn the cover to open it, on the back side of the cover is where disk one lives, happily resting snuggly in its matt black-thick paper-folder, and this folder thing is firmly bound to the cover…like a how a record would live in its sleeve. On the right is a page of high density black mat paper, its a good place to put the sticker by the way..turn the page to see the actual book.3. The book is actually pretty cool, filled with images of the stage, daft punk, the alien triangle and all its glowing glory, the concert setup and what not. Although for the cost of today, meaning the out of print cost..its not too spectacular, but for the original list price it was sold at.. yea i would say its a huge bonus. After the 50 pages…turn the final page to the back side of the back cover, This is where disk 2 lives. Again its snuggly living in a sleeve.4. To the disks!, side the disks out to view, the disks are like the cover, jet black with just the alive logo, and “daft punk Alive 2007”. Its super simplistic and very cool. As for the CD-R it self, its of standard release grade, best to archive them as they are going to scratch easily, best they remain in the book FAR AWAY from high speed drives and car stereos.5. THE MUSIC, disk one is pure ear candy. 12 continuous meshed tracks covering over 20+ mixes, an entire concert from start to finish with the crowd. The opening track throws you right into the mix and primes you for whats to come. Towards the center things really start heating up with high speed -almost perfect mixes of all there major tracks, and towards the end you will rocking out with the crowd to last second. Sound quality is clear with great highs, mids and bass.I would say the CD achieves max allowed sound range..Owners of large stereos with subs shall very be pleased. Headphone wise lots of channel changes and ear candy..IE they should get an A for mastering.Disk two: EXTRA MIXES! and VIDEO! WELL WORTH IT! THEY SOUND AWESOME!!!video is very cool BUT! it does not show the giant triangle with its full projection screens on!!! its mostly of just the light show and the fans..THE JIST.One, i would imagine one would think its crazyto pay $75 to over $100 for this thing.Especially when its probably floating about on the net.but Alive 2007 LE is not about data on plasticits about the spirit of music..and the fact when you buy a CD or record you should get somethingconcrete for your money!!!! For those who went go see alive its well worth it, a memento from an Awesome Concert. For those who did not go, well its as close to it as one can get…i mean you pick it up and whoa..as if the giant triangle just planted it self in your front yard..IE OUT OF PRINT COOL TO THE MAX!
  • Music sounds better with Daft
Daft Punk is a duo that I’ve only recently come to love for their ambition, creativity, and craft, but even then I can’t say I’ve loved everything they’ve done. Much of their work, predominantly from their first and third albums, struck me as repetitive, boring electronic buzzing sounds that tend to play on a loop rather than evolve. This is not to say that their other work (“Discovery” and “Random Access Memories,” specifically) doesn’t strike my fancy, as my qualms don’t nearly affect these albums as much. Perhaps it was just that Daft’s more “house” offerings tended to just not mesh well with me.Then I listened to Alive 2007, and I finally get it.This album puts you right there at Bercy Arena with a raging crowd, a pulsing sound, and an intense, almost flawless greatest hits mashup of songs from Daft’s complete history up to that point. Thomas and Guy seamlessly blend all of their work together into an hour-long medley that you won’t be able to stop bobbing your head to, guaranteed. All of my issues with Homework and Human After All somehow just VANISH when you can hear the crowd cheering and moving to the beat, when the melodies of other songs compliment them so well. The meshing of songs that this duo manages to craft are so perfect that I can barely imagine listening to them any other way. Robot Rock? Can’t listen to it without whispering “OH YEAH” to myself anymore. Rollin’ and Scratchin’ suddenly feels empty without a distant screech of “I AM THE BRAINWASHER.”Daft Punk are masters of the house and dance genres, and this album is a pure testament to that. If you’re a fan of any of their work or even disregard them as crazy robots* who just cut and paste the same 4 beats to make a song, give this a listen. You won’t be disappointed.*Humans (after all).
  • Perfect LP

  • ALIVE 2007
Item arrived on time. The front was a bit scratched but the vinyls work great, and the artwork on the inside is fantastic.
  • Daft Punk its amazing.
    Great live record.
  • Amazon has the 2 LP Vinyl in Stock, I’d grab it ASAP
I purchased this not knowing if I was going to receive the 2 LP vinyl record or the CDs as the description uses the word “disc” instead of side. I did receive the vinyl and it arrived with some minor areas with dust. The dust was easy to clean off with a vinyl cleaning brush. The vinyl itself feels 180 gram-so you should expect little to no warping. It played very well with little to no pops or clicks. The only issue I have is that the Encore (Human After All / Together / One More Time / Music Sounds Better with You) is NOT included. Total bummer. Overall I’m very happy. Get it before the reissue is gone!

  • Every Ten Years
In 1967, the Bee Gees appeared internationally with “Bee Gees 1st”. In 1977, the Bee Gees were on the brink of “Saturday Night Fever” mania. In 1987, the Bee Gees came back with the great album “ESP”. In 1997 they released “Still Waters” and were awarded the ‘International Award Bee Gees – AMA’ and the ‘Brits Award’. In 2007 they received the ‘BMI awards’ and now in 2017, they are releasing this collection of classics with the 40th anniversary of “Saturday Night Fever”.It’s almost daunting to think about how many compilations the Bee Gees have released over the years. There are simply dozens. So why release this collection? Capitol Records is cashing in on the group along with a new release (including 180g vinyl) of “Saturday Night Fever”. If these albums sell enough, perhaps Capitol will fulfill their promise to release further unreleased tracks from the Bee Gees past. One can only hope.Note that this collection contains all the #1 hits, and all the Top 20 hits ‘in the USA’. “Spicks And Specks” and “You Win Again” are the odd ones out, but they did reach #1 in Australia and the UK respectively. “More Than A Woman” simply had to be included to coincide with “Saturday Night Fever”.The sound? Its as good as it is going to get. These songs have been remastered over and over again. They sound clean, clear and balanced. Barry’s liner notes are short and sweet, but give little more information to the average listener. If you don’t have a greatest hits collection, you will enjoy this, however, I still can’t think of anything better than the “Bee Gees Ultimate” collection (with DVD).The liner notes consist of all the songs with title, writer(s), release date and producer. There are no liner notes other than Barry’s comment. There are a few photos including one of all their albums. The cover made me think it looked like a Christmas album, but then, it is the music that matters. I do hope Capitol Records gets more creative with more material, especially the unreleased songs.
  • Good product
I was pleasantly surprised that I like a lot more songs on this CD than I expected to.
  • Yep! Timeless!
Timeless just like it says! The BeeGees are a classic!
  • Staying Alive
“Staying Alive” This might be one of your goals for the New Year 2023. However, I’m referring to the Bee Gees All Time Greatest Hits. If your old enough to remember disco in the 70’s then you know the Bee Gees were hot on the dance floor. Even if your not, you can still enjoy listening to this legendary group which is a must have for your music collection. No need to worry about trying to download the music or find the record just buy the CD and enjoy. Amazon makes it easy to order music of your favorite groups and to relive the memories of where you were when you first heard it. If for some reason you don’t like it simply return it. But I think after listening you will want to order more CD’s of the groups and singers from the past and present. This CD has all the hit songs of the Bee Gees. The sound quality is good so put on your dancing shoes and groove to the sound of “Night Fever” and show them what you got! – MIT

  • A newer master but I like it!
Great CD, a classic, a favorite in our family. My old one from 1992 got scratched irreversibly (I am glad I saved it as FLAC files before!) so I decided to reorder this album. When it arrived, the case and the CD and the insert looked different (in a nice way actually), and the CD sounded different, so I started reading and found that this is a different master! The original master from 1992 was by Michael B. Tretow – it sounded lively and energetic but was fairly bright, with Waterloo being almost too bright to my taste. This new CD is a 2010 edition, mastered by Henrik Jonsson in 2008. It sounds more full and has some more bass, and after listening and comparing them to each other, I must say I now generally prefer the new master. It’s just an easier listen. By the way, my ears are telling me that the version on Spotify is this 2008 master (the new one). A fascinating journey down mastering history! Compare for yourself if you have access to both versions, but you can’t go wrong with buying just this one.
  • Has all the hits
Best Abba album that they put out. Has all the hits.
  • Great CD!
    Fast delivery!
  • The best Mama Mia
The first copy of this CD delivered to me was bad: Song 16 could not be played.Submitted a change request after returning the bad one, the new copy I got is good.I have another CD named Mama Mia which should be the CD of the music show, the quality of all songs of that one is poor even thorough all its songs could be played without issues. This CD presents the best quality of songs of Mama Mia, I would say.

  • King of Pop
    Perfect!
  • All the greatest hits included
I bought this album because my 5 year old son asked if we could listen to Michael Jackson. I searched through all his albums and this is the one that had the most hits on it. We really enjoy this album and arrive to carpool listening to it often. The only son I can think of that isn’t on there is We Are The World. It has every Michael Jackson hit from the 80’s and a little into the 90’s that I can remember.

What Customers Say:

  • When the 80’s were something new
In the 80s everything seemed new. VCR’s changed how everyone watched TV and were spawning mom and pop rental stores everywhere. Cable TV brought recent movies home – I can still remember the HBO theme. There were lots of teen comedies like Fast Times at Ridgemont High and lots of new faces in them. And there were music videos on MTV. It felt like a celebration, perhaps the last truly optimistic decade for a long time to come.It was perfect that when MTV went on the air on August 1, 1981 the first video was The Buggles’ Video Killed the Radio Star. The song seemed a bit arrogant in its proclamation to American ears, where radio was still the only thing, but in the U.K. music videos had been around for years and were an important part of music promotion. The song itself had been around since 1979 when it had been a #1 hit in Britain and most of Europe but only #40 in the U.S., so no one really heard it. Here it sounded like a new song at the dawn of a new era. With a deceptively mellow electric keyboard opening that seemed as it were about to launch into a love song by Stephen Bishop or Lionel Richie, it immediately switched gears with an uptempo and the seemingly vocoded voice of Trevor Horn into a prototype of the 80’s sound ahead of its time. It also exuded an irony and detachment that became a frequent part of the decade’s style. Even the video contained the looks of the 80s from Horn’s sunglasses to the backup singers’ glamorous looks. It was goodbye to granola and earth tones – the Eighties were here.Of course things moved a little more slowly then, and it took awhile for everything to really get going. MTV spread gradually into major markets. But within a year the channel was just about everywhere and all the young people were watching it. The thing was, they needed videos to play and it was the British bands who had them. America was behind for a change and to be honest, the music scene had become somewhat dull with stadium rock and big pop stars but nothing in particular really going on. There were some New Wave bands, with Blondie just breaking out but they were mostly a cult thing. These British bands had a new look and new sound with synthesizers, keyboards that became the sound of the day. Before long there was a real Second British Invasion going on as this collection attests with 16 of its 20 songs being by British artists. Like the 1964 British Invasion these bands generally had many more hits in the U.K. than America. Of course the 80s were as broad and varied a decade as any with funk bands and R&B balladeers, traditional rock, country-rock and pop singers but it was this synth-pop/new wave-ish sound that became emblematic of the decade.Pure 80s doesn’t try to cover the full expanse of 80s music but instead hones in on this particular sound with a few exceptions for the sake of variety.. The people who put it together really captured the birth and expansion of the 80s sound and it’s this which sets it above many similar collections. There’s no attempt to be strictly chronological or get too literal about the times (it includes songs as far as 1986) but for the most part it’s a great portrait of the explosion of music in the early years of the decade. (Still, it should have included Don’t You Want Me by the Human League). The Eurythmics and Annie Lennox became major stars of the decade once Sweet Dreams hit in early ‘83 with its dark minor key tune and message that “Everybody’s looking for something”. Tears for Fears also became major and are present here with their summer of ‘85 hit, Everybody Wants To Rule the World. Culture Club’s biggest song, Karma Chameleon, featured a video in which everyone was on a Mississippi riverboat dressed in 1870’s finery except for Boy George himself who seemed to have been beamed in directly from 1984. Duran Duran had one of the most popular videos with Hungry Like the Wolf, filmed in Sri Lanka with an Indiana Jones vibe. Animotion was an L.A. group that so perfected the new sound that everyone thought they were British; their video was appropriately set around a swimming pool. Obsession was used in early 80s heartthrob, Christopher Atkins’ film, A Night In HeavenSteve Winwood had been around since he sang lead on the Spencer Davis Group’s Gimme Some Lovin’ in late 1966 and had been in Blind Faith and Traffic as well; it was great to see him make it again in the 80s. Robert Palmer’s Addicted To Love was very popular with its band of models made up like Patrick Nagel’s paintings of women (he did the cover of the Rio album). Palmer amped it up even further in his follow-up, Simply Irresistible. Two of the great party songs of the 80s are here with Wang Chung’s four minutes of total madness, Everybody Have Fun Tonight and Relax by Frankie Goes To Hollywood, whose original video pushed the envelope a little too far and was never aired. The Irish-sounding Dexy’s Midnight Runners were actually from Birmingham and Madness had a sound more like UB40 before they made Our House. Somehow there’s still room for some Americans, including Rick Springfield (Jessie’s Girl was the #1 song in the country when MTV debuted), the J. Geils Band and the Stray Cats, who were part of an early 80s Rockabilly thing. Though Squeeze’s Tempted wasn’t a hit originally it’s been used so often in other media that’s it’s become an 80s standard. Unusually the lead vocal isn’t Glenn Tilbrook but keyboardist Paul Carrack. This is a great 80s collection for its length. It was released in 1999 when, under pressure from the internet, the labels decided to cooperate with each other for a change. You couldn’t have a collection like this in the past: each label would have put out their own collection. But after the experiment of Now That’s What I Call Music succeeded, they joined forces. Released by Universal, acts from many labels are here.
  • Love the 80s music.
Love listening to my 80s music on the radio. Great product.
  • Brings back good memories
Nice and clear sound, plan on buying more to build my library
  • Fantastic, but not by original artists
This CD collection is Extremely well done, and the singing and music are surprisingly excellent. However, None of it is by the original artists. It states that on the CD box, but I missed it somehow. That’s my fault, definitely. But just be aware of that if you are considering this collection.
  • Great Music
The disc arrived undamaged (rare). It registers on all my players, so I know it’s authentic. Very good selection of songs.I recommend this disc.
  • 80’s Fans will love this
This CD really has some great cuts — It spans one hit wonders and includes several more durable great bands too. No collection on one disc would ever be complete, but the great thing about this CD is that you get many of the songs you might want without having to spend on each album (what else did the Buggles do?). Starting with Video Killed the Radio Star, (the song first played on MTV), and ending with one of Squeeze’s strongest “Tempted”, the disc is entirely playable all the way through. You won’t be skipping songs (unless you can’t stand Culture Club, but yes they happened in the 80’s) -you’ll be singing along to the tunes if you love 80’s music. Hungry like the Wolf, Come on Eileen, etc, Madness’s Our House, all of these just catch your ears and heart and offer a really solid collection. There are 20 songs, and I just wish some of them were longer — Tainted Love is not the extended version (not the “Where did Our Love Go” remix). This CD is a great 80’s collection — one of the best I could find.

  • Nice, but…
The album itself is great. The remixes aren’t my thing, but I wanted ‘hello, goodbye’ included. So I chose this version of BRAT. The CD plays flawlessly- no complaints there. I wish I could say the same for the case. It has a small crack on the back, and a few pieces of plastic came off as I opened it. That being said, I am keeping it, because I already know this can happen with any CD case on Amazon. It is disappointing, but it is what it is.
