What Customers Say:

  • Great information about migraines and nerve problems
This is a very concise book about the workings of the nerves and muscles of the body and it was very interesting to listen to. The author narrated the book and he has a very pleasant voice and is enjoyable to listen to. I learned a lot and it was very helpful to me.
  • Groundbreaking wisdom and insights from Gabor Mate
This book is amazing. Gabor Mate explains how we need to honor our body and listen to what it is telling us.
  • Understanding is a major element of healing!
I developed something called Central Sensitization Syndrome last year after an injury and along with reading a book called How to Do the Work, and a program called DNRS, this book was a major element of my recovery. It also helped me so much in learning how to set boundaries around my life and how crucial they are to my livelihood and longevity of life! I wish I could force everyone to read this book. I carry it around in my purse now so I can tell others about it. Seriously life changing. Please read it!!
  • Great Information!
Really stresses the importance of lowering cortisol levels and how this affects the body. Would recommend for a health read!
  • Must Read!
It would be wise for every medical and nursing school to make this book a “Must Read” in their curriculum…plus all of the research behind it. It could be a key factor in transforming our health care system into truly patient centered care.
  • Still relevant!
Though the book was written a couple decades ago, the idea has yet to reach the mainstream: many disease processes are strongly influenced by early unhealthy relationship patterns. More specifically: people who had early relationships in which they couldn’t say “No,” decades later the body finally says “No” for them. The examples are really convincing. Gabor Mate interviews some of the people and their answers really affirm his hypothesis. He may be further saying particular diseases have this feature more than other diseases. I am finished with the ALS chapter and part way into the breast cancer chapter. Two people he outlines with ALS are Lou Gherig himself who never said “No” to playing baseball even when his hand was broken, contrasted to Stephen Hawking who learned to say “No,” (even if he was unkind sometimes) who lived decades longer than was expected. Confirming Mate’s hypothesis that this disease has — not a CAUSE but an Element — of not being able to say No until the disease finally says No for them. The hopeful part of the message is that for those who learn to have more well-defined boundaries and stick by them, this can reduce these diseases. While I applaud him for this innovative hypothesis, I think it may not go far enough, early enough or deep enough. Sure, a child feeling cornered will build up anger resentment or other emotions. Sure, as an adult the person likely has not found ways that have released that emotion and may even be perpetuating it. Sure, emotion is a physiological situation that can switch on genes that were not switched on before. And have other health repercussions. But is it really the adult now learning to “Say No” that is the key?ha ha, maybe I’m one of the ones that needs the book. Maybe I’ll keep reading.Another thing I am not fully convinced: the book makes it sound like the Body makes a choice to say No, because the person won’t. I am not sure it works that way.Still, I am loving the book, especially the case histories which have so much meaning and relevance.Certainly, medical schools could benefit from teaching some of these books. Say in a Pre-Med curriculum. This one is still relevant in 2025.
  • Very detailed
    Great book!
  • C classic health non-fiction book, well-researched
An important book. Fits the story of my life and what I see around me.

What Customers Say:

  • Wonderful book to do by yourself or with your partner!
I really love this workbook and highly recommend. My husband and I are doing it together and it has been so amazing for both of us individually and together. Another level of intimacy working so deeply together and gaining even greater understanding of one another. It is quite large so lots to do and discuss and reflect on. Wonderfully made with good quality, nice and sturdy. Looking forward to continuing with it and seeing the end result in both of us.
  • Therapist recommended!
This workbook is amazing. I’m a dually licensed therapist (clinical mental health & marriage & family therapy) and I use this religiously both with my individual and couples/family sessions. As a trauma informed therapist, this book is such an amazing educational resource and tool for individuals and clinicians. Whether you have a trauma history or are just struggling in any area of life with managing your stress, struggle with anxiety/depression, or self esteem issues- this workbook will improve your life, and maybe even change it. It is also very ADHD brain friendly with the way its laid out (the info is well compartmentalized in a way that’s not overwhelming or too dense). The goal of this book is to basically help us become more self aware and live more intentionally and authentically vs just living in autopilot mode and going through the motions and feeling unfilled. It is centered around being more aware and conscious of our bodies and nervous system in order to help rewire our brain, we first have to create a sense of safety within our bodies. Whether you had a traumatic childhood or really wonderful upbringing, but still find yourself often feeling “stuck” or overwhelmed, this workbook will help. I use this book not only daily in sessions and have recommended it to several colleagues and clients, but also use it separately for myself as my own act of self care and I love it. For those who are wondering- the “How to do the work” book by Dr. Lepara is helpful to read before this, but totally not necessary. You can work on the workbook and not need to have read the book its based off of before hand. Whether you’re a clinician or just a person who wants to better themselves- this book is for you and you will not regret buying it!!!!
  • Amazingly beautiful, Well Thought Out and Organized
I’m sure I’ll have even more good to say when I get even deeper into it but I can already tell this will be an amazing tool on my healing journey. Her first book (note: you don’t need to have read that one to get this one), “how to do the work”, changed my life and perspective on a lot of things, and I feel this workbook gives you the tools and an excellent guide to doing that work. There’s soooo much good information, outlines, journal prompts, QR codes to guided meditations… so much good stuff for such a reasonable price!! I plan to use this in conjunction with therapy but it could definitely be worked through on your own.The colors and illustrations are very appreciated as well, it keeps it from feeling “dull” and at least for me helps stimulate my mind into WANTING to keep using it. Looks like you can jump around different parts that are more relevant or go “in order” of the book. It’s very user friendly. I plan to work through some of it with my husband and some of it on my own, and he seems pretty excited about it also. 🙂
  • Wonderful Guide!
Dr Nicole does it again! This book was a beautiful journey and guide. The format, the content, it all flowed so well. Some of the questions really challenged me and it felt good. I knew in those moments those were the things I needed to really face and tackle on this journey to meet myself. Her words and how she divides the book really made me feel like there was someone there helping me along the way. I took my time knowing what I needed to stop and really focus on the chapter or section and I feel like I have a whole new set of tools in my toolbox thanks to this book., in a new level of awareness and I believe it did help me meet myself.
  • Beautiful, well-rounded, thoughtful workbook
This workbook is broken down into the following chapters for meeting: your habit self, your emotional self, and your authentic self. I thought this idea was intuitive, and the book is also beautifully designed.I thought this was an interesting concept, that we aren’t our automatic habits or emotional selves and don’t always have to identify with them, even though they are important to explore and be aware of. Each section has a variety of original prompts to explore each aspect of ourselves. There are ideas that could be explained more, like having a dysregulated nervous system, polyvagal theory, etc. If you are interested in these topics, I found the workbook ‘I Want to Connect’ to be a great read.Overall I thought this was a very well-rounded workbook for reflecting and “meeting” myself.
  • QR codes do not work
I was very excited to get this book as I loved “How to do the Work”. I cannot get the QR codes to work. I’ve tried several different ways to access the meditations, etc and have been unsuccessful. The content is excellent, was just really looking forward to be able to access the audio information as well. If anyone has any tips i would welcome them!

What Customers Say:

  • REMEMBER TO NEVER TRY TO WIN A DISAGREEMENT BECAUSE YOU LOSE BY DAMAGING THE CONNECTION!
THE NEXT CONVERSATION ARGUE LESS TALK MOREI have something like 23 credits at Audible and the fascinating thing it’s read by the Author who has a pleasant voice. It’s between 6 or 7 hours and he”s not a mental health professional and my biggest takeaway is your goal should never be to win a disagreement it’s connection with the other person that you seek. He talks about when your goal is to win that connection or bond gets ruptured or weakened. He talks about if someone seems angry or in a bad mood your goal is to find what the layer underneath is usually about something for instance the person might be having to navigate unknown problems and might say something but connection with no matter who your dealing with is so important. I already know that since I took a lot of psychology as an undergraduate which I have always enjoyed and I was a natural earning all A grades on papers and tests and final grades. I have had a lot of stress and I don’t know what got into me but sometimes I’d get annoyed when people like over the phone dealing with people I don’t know who don’t listen to what I say and they make me keep repeating myself. This never happened to me before since my kids and husband and family and friends are easy to deal with. It’s usually a payment that I call in and I had an unauthorized charges which I got a fraud alert that came to a couple thousand dollars which traumatized me to have had to work through that. I’ve always been chill and non confrontational, but that along with some hard to diagnose health problems had me acting like a person who I didn’t recognize that after explaining in detail, I got frustrated and anyone would. Another takeaway is when dealing with rudeness at random my biggest takeaway is my first word should be to breath. I was so sick I couldn’t keep any food down and I listened to this man who has a podcast that I might check out in the future says it’s the wrong book for you if you hope to get psychological advice.. He was fortunate to grow up with parents who taught him how to communicate. Breathing slows down your breath which increases when you get annoyed like I was when I explained something and the response is like the unknown to me person responds as if they didn’t listen. I had super polite and easy to raise sons who I never felt mad at them all throughout their life. I speak to people with sensitivity even my children. My husband is kind, but he was the stricter parent so maybe that’s why my kids were well behaved. Now that they are out on their own they are sometimes more of a challenge, but they are well adjusted, polite people. My husband is wonderful, but he was the one that would say no sometimes, where I would say yes. Anyway I’ve found this a great resource since we are all hard wired to want connection to not be damaged by having to try to get others to agree with you I already knew that just makes things worse. I think most of things on this Audible listen was common sense. He says you’re never going to remember everything so take one thing that you resonate with and start right away doing it. My husband and I are only different about who we vote for. I think there are blatant things that I find nutty and we both said we are never going to convince each other about politics so I don’t bring it up since he has a right to his choice of politicians and I do to. It’s never good to try to change peoples ideas since they just dig their heels in deeper. I don’t want to win anybody else over to my way of thinking so if you remember the people you love always remember to think about keeping the connection says this trial lawyer which always breathe when triggered because you won’t react you’ll respond. Highly recommend this has many good things and I like it. It’s a keeper!
  • Fantastic book! It’s a must read.
I learned so much in the few hours it took me to read this entire book, than in the five years I spent going to therapy at $200.00 an hour. I wish this book had been around back than. This book went over everything I was doing wrong when it comes to communication. Jefferson’s words have helped me overcome misunderstandings and poor communication skills I’ve had in my relationships with close family and even my husband. It’s such a fascinating thing to know how something so simple like a conversational breath can make such a difference in the outcome of your conversation or interaction with someone. Jefferson makes so many valid points in how poorly we handle communication and the misconception on how we should handle conversations with difficult people. This book was captivating and well worth reading. I highly recommend it.
  • A Must Read!
Critical reading for anyone thinking and speaking: to anyone, family, children, strangers, colleagues, EVERYONE, even yourself. All means all. It gives you the words to say in pretty much any situation in order to benefit all involved. It will give you more confidence. If everyone read this book we would have peace in this world. We would SEE the person we are speaking to. We wouldn’t take things personally, less pessimistic, less accusatory, more kind, professional….from the least to the greatest. Jefferson has wisdom beyond his years. I wish I could take one of his college courses, but this book was an eyeopener for me. I feel more confident when going into a difficult situation or greeting a stranger. A must read for middle and high schoolers. Purchased both hardcopy and audible. Will definitely listen to it again and read to highlight and absorb.
  • Great book!
Great book! Well written and easy to follow. Good examples and keeps the reader interested. Provides very useful information on how to communicate in almost any situation, especially difficult or tense conversations. Author seems knowledgeable and well spoken, while not talking above the reader. I really appreciate the information and have applied it in my daily life.

The Laws of Human Nature

The Laws of Human Nature

Price: $23.63
4.8/5

(17,388 reviews)

What Customers Say:

  • Naturally, it was in his nature!
Naturally, it was in Robert Greene’s nature to write this book. Accustomed as he has been to writing about human activity involving power relationships, Greene has produced yet another extraordinary book jam-packed with fascinating insights about how the mind of homo sapiens often works in dealing with other members of the species. As Greene describes in the introduction, this book is a codebook for deciphering people’s behavior, with each chapter telling the story of some iconic individual(s) who illustrates the law being covered, along with advice on how to operate successfully (if that’s possible) under this law.So what laws (all negative aspects or shortcomings, 18 to be exact, of human behavior) does Green focus on in this book? Irrationality, narcissism, role-playing, compulsive behavior, covetousness, shortsightedness, defensiveness, self-sabotage, repression, envy, grandiosity, gender rigidity, aimlessness, conformity, fickleness, aggression, generational myopia, and death denial. As usual with Greene’s not-inexpensive books, he gives one a lot of ideas and pages to chew on for the money, leaving one well satisfied with the investment. If I do have any criticisms, the main one relates to the stories he uses to highlight the laws. Quite often the characterizations are so extensively detailed and intriguing that one can easily forget the law being discussed. Also, there’s his possible hairsplitting of each of his 18 laws into numerous subcategories, reminding one of the mythical Eskimo vocabulary for the word “snow,” which can get one to question how useful the subcategories are depending upon one’s situation. In addition, some chapters kept me wondering, for example, the one on gender rigidity. Do those things really happen? This brings up a related general criticism: a selected bibliography, yes, but no supporting footnotes to back up a few especially dubious, IMHO, assertions. All in all, however, I believe you’ll find the book well-written, enjoyable, and educational as regards important strategies the less-than-honorable portion of the population uses and the strategies the more honorable can use to successfully counter.Of possible consideration for those interested in a book distilling five main life strategies from 87 of history’s master strategists: Strategic Advantage: How to Win in War, Business, and Life
  • Informative and Interesting
I found this book to be very interesting and informative. I especially enjoyed the reference to historical figures and their personality traits. Human nature is endlessly fascinating, and this book is full of valuable insights that can help you to navigate the landscape of personalities out there!
  • BEST book I’ve ever read
At the time of this review, I’m only halfway through reading this book, but I love it SO much. I am going after it hardcore with a highlighter and sticky tabs. I have read over 300 pages (this is a BIG book btw) and have not read a single page that was not worthwhile. This book is easy to comprehend and apply. I recommend taking your time in digesting it, as the lessons are quite practical in daily life. It is truly helping me understand myself and others and why we all behave the way we do.Each “Law” is a different chapter and the author explains the law, how to recognize it in yourself and others, and how to address such. He also includes a story about a real person from history and an interesting anecdote that applies to the lesson. I have never been much of a history buff but these stories are fascinating and therefore I’m learning not only about psychology but history as well.I cannot wait to keep devouring this book. I would STRONGLY encourage any human being who wants to intentionally become more self-aware and tolerant to read this book. I will definitely be checking out more books from this author.
  • Great book!
*The Laws of Human Nature* is an exceptional book that offers profound insights into human behavior. Robert Greene masterfully delves into the complexities of our emotions, actions, and interactions, providing a deep understanding of what drives people. The book is packed with historical examples, psychological theories, and practical wisdom, making it both informative and engaging. It offers valuable lessons for anyone looking to improve their relationships, influence others, or simply understand the intricacies of human nature. Overall, it’s a great read, filled with timeless knowledge that can be applied to various aspects of life. Highly recommend!
  • One of the best authors! Amazing read!!!
Love this book! Excited to read all of his books. He’s a wonderful writer. I’d have to say my favorite so far. I could spend hours reading his work. I hope he writes one on governments and mind control. That would be fascinating to read.
  • Excellent Book, Poor S&H
Robert Greene’s The Laws of Human Nature is a sharp, engaging exploration of human behavior, unpacking 18 “laws” like narcissism and envy through psychology and historical examples. It’s insightful and practical, though dense at 600+ pages. My copy’s dust cover arrived damaged, which was frustrating, but the content is stellar for understanding people.
  • excellent book
This book is a gripping dive into the complexities of human behavior, blending psychology, history, and practical wisdom with Greene’s signature clarity. Each chapter unpacks a different aspect of our nature-like narcissism or envy-with real-world examples that make the insights hit home. It’s dense but rewarding, pushing you to reflect on your own actions and those of others. If you want a thought-provoking read that sharpens your understanding of people, this one’s a must.

  • So far – extremely informative and helpful
Still in process of reading the book and have took so much away from it in the little time I’ve spent reading it. Definitely looks more than a one time read and more like a reference book. Can’t wait to update review once I’m finished
  • Extremely Disappointing – This Is Not a Real Book based on the audio book
The media could not be loaded. Extremely Disappointing – This Is Not a Real BookAs a published author myself, I’m shocked at the quality and content of this print-on-demand version of Take Control of Your Life by Mel Robbins. This is NOT the same as the excellent audiobook. Instead, what I received was a flimsy, 66-page booklet with only a few words per page—no real substance, depth, or usable content. And yet it’s priced at $14.95?The audiobook is powerful and full of value, but this print version feels like a cheap attempt to capitalize on Mel’s name and brand. I highly doubt Mel herself even approved this version—it doesn’t reflect the quality she’s known for. I’m returning this immediately. Honestly, I’ll have to transcribe the audiobook myself just to have something readable. It’s ridiculous that her team didn’t do this already—transcribing audio and formatting it into a proper book is basic publishing 101.
