    I had to drill through metal and these drill bits worked great. I had tried cobalt bits and they couldn’t do it.

    The drill are very good and come in a nice sturdy case. That said, they package this stuff in an indestructible plastic container. In ways that’s good but VERY difficult to open. You will need to wrestle it with a sharp object like a razor knife, risking personal injury and possibly damaging the product.

    This was an inexpensive set of drill bits, but I only needed to drill holes in plastic for my project so I ordered a set. They worked perfectly which in plastic wasn’t surprising. What is surprising is how well they work for projects with metal. The steps are perfectly spaced so they do not tear thin materials as you transition between the steps. I drill pilot holes so the drill tips have not been damaged and the drills are as sharp as when they were new. Very happy with these tools.

    Seems like a nice set of step drills. I used one of the drills for the first time recently, drilling holes thru some 15 gallon drums. Sure, they were only plastic drums, but they were pretty thick. Anyway, I popped holes using these and it was like a hot knife thru butter. Very sharp. I don’t plan on using these for any drilling of extremely hard metal like stainless steel so I think they’ll work perfect for my needs. Nice set for the price. I took off one star only because I don’t know how they’ll work for harder materials or how long they’ll remain sharp. I’m happy with them.

    We were working on a craft project that required holes through small sheet metal covers to mount solar lights. The holes were 11/16 inch diameter and these step bits cut a nice, clean round hole in the metal. The bits have angled shafts to prevent rotation in the drill chuck, and seem sturdy and sharp. For cutting something thicker, like wood, I think it would work easier to see clearly when the various step levels occur, because you have more resistance. But overall these worked great for our project, and a new addition to the variety of drill bits we need and use around our DIY projects.
  • Very Sharp Step Drill Bit = Nice Smooth Cuts
    I purchased this step drill bit to drill a dash mount hole on my boat. The bit is very sharp and drilled through the fiberglass easily. It is intended for drilling holes in thinner material, otherwise the hole will be tapered (larger hole outside and smaller hole inside). In my case, I drilled the hole to size in my dash but then had to enlarge the back of the hole with a small sander bit. Ideally this bit is probably best for 1/4″ thick or less material.

    Works as described and this is my second purchase of this brand to extend my collection not replace. This thing cuts so many things and does so without ripping and tearing like a spade does. This is perfect for making any size hole that is labeled.Well made and has weight. I use this mostly making holes in 3mm to 6mm plastic for diy projects and it works great.
  • Works, but is not smooth . . .
    I bought this so I could put a new grommet into my Weber Smokey Mountain Smoker. My model was an older model and didn’t come with the grommet that allows for temp probes to pass through and monitor the temp of the inside of the smoker and the meat being smoked. When I purchased the grommets (it came 2 to a pack), Amazon recommended this drill bit for making the hole in the smoker to allow for mounting the new grommet. I already have a drill bit like this one from a name brand, BUT it wasn’t big enough to accommodate the grommet I was purchasing. So, since I needed this to make my project work and since it was about 25% of what I paid for my other one, I bought it. Also, I factored in that I was probably only going to need to use it once, ever, so it made sense to get this product at the same time of purchase as the grommets.When the grommets and drill bit arrived, I was pleased and excited. I cleaned up the outside of the smoker where I was going to drill and then put some painters tape over the designated spot to try and prevent the enamel from chipping. I then started to drill. The tape seemed like a good idea at the time, but the tape quickly peeled and got stuck in the drill bit. I eventually pulled the tape off completely about 1/3 of the way through for drilling. I needed to make a hole that is 1 and 1/4″ in diameter, which was the second to last step on the bit. I was trying not to go too fast ’cause I was worried I would get overzealous and drill the hole too big and then I’d be Really Mad ’cause I would have messed up my smoker. So I took my time and kept on going. When I got about 3/4 of the way through, the bit was not very smooth – not like my other name brand bit. I was getting even more scared that I was going to mess up my smoker and it was making me nervous using this drill bit. However, I had already come this far and there was no turning back at this point. So, I pressed on, but gently.The biggest problem I was encountering was that the bit would catch on the opening it had created with each step that it passed through on the bit and I had to be careful not to cut my fingers, mess up my drill or mess up my smoker. It was frustrating because it wasn’t a smooth drilling process at all. However, I eventually got to the stopping point and took the bit out. I could see a nasty burr of sharp metal hanging from the opening I had just created. So I put the drill on the other side of the hole and very gently drilled from that side just long enough to get rid of it and make the opening fairly smooth. Then, I was finally able to install the grommet and breathe a sigh of relief that I had not messed up my smoker.I share all of this with you, the reader, to let you know that this product did work, BUT it was not very smooth and if the name brand bit I had was big enough, I would gladly have used it instead. Knowing what I know now, I would caution you on purchasing this and remember my experience with this drill bit. It Can do the job, but you have to be super careful with it, or you might mess something up that you can’t fix later and that would be very, very bad, I would imagine.     I bought this hole saw (6.25” diameter) to install recessed lights in my kitchen ceiling. The design is solid. The bit securely mounts to the saw via a threaded portion then locks down with 2 guide pins. The dust collection bowl works fine and reduces mess. I made 6 holes in total and the blade stayed sharp throughout and almost looked unused.A piece of advice when drilling holes…Use the pilot bit to start your hole, press the blade in to contact the ceiling and run your drill in reverse to scratch the hole outline in the drywall, then run your drill at high speed to cut the hole using light pressure. Allow the saw to do the work and you won’t have any problems or unnecessary dulling of the blade. I also recommend using a handle on your drill to stabilize your cut. If the blade decides to grab in the drywall, you’re going to have a sore wrist.Overall, a solid product for what it’s designed for. Use it correctly and you shouldn’t have any issues cutting all the holes you need for your lighting project.

    Very sharp saw. It works well but the shroud makes it hard to remove the cutting so I removed it and used a shop vac.Also, the tightner becomes hard to loosen so I had to use channel locks to remove it.

    I have bought about 5 other 22mm chisels to punch out holes in 1/16 abs plastic. This is the only one that held up.I honestly had no business using chisels to punch out holes on this scale, but it was all I had to work with in the short term. After punching over 10,000 holes in plastic my chisel had finally broke.Some people would be discouraged over this, but I couldn’t be more impressed that it held up for as long as it did. I beat this poor tool to death and finally broke it on the second to last plastic sheet I was working on.I’m recommending this arc punch set to anyone that is looking at the competition. I have used them all, and I have broken them all. This one was the sharpest, toughest, and most durable one I’ve encountered.The only downside was having to unscrew the punch to remove the plastic circles. Time was the price I paid for quality, durability, and consistency. 5 stars for my ol broken arc punch that served me well.

  • Great bit for tough job
    This worked great for my needs. I had a broken off brass fitting in a steal threaded hole in my air compressor tank. I drilled it out with this bit so I could chase the steal threads with a tap (9/16″ hole for 3/8 NPT tap). It’s difficult to do with a hand drill, and the bit grabbed and stopped the drill a number of times, and each time I had to back it out and try again until I finally got through. I was worried I’d chip or break the bit, but it got the job done and look perfect after.I also like that the tip is nicely finished like a quality bit, and the 1/2″ shaft has three flats for a much better drill chuck grip. I will buy more from this company.

    My friend asked me to repair the damaged wooden handles of his favorite paring knife. My rivets turned out to be slightly larger than the holes in his blade. No problem…….I’ll just take the 11/64″ bit from my cobalt drill bit set and expand the holes. Not. I quickly destroyed the bit, even while using a high quality lubricant. My buddy loved this knife because it held its edge so well – that should have been a warning to me.Granted my “cobalt” drill bits were from a big box store and were maybe not of the highest quality but they had served me reasonably well. But clearly, something better was needed. So I turned to good old Amazon. Facing a fairly large array of bits, I relied mostly on reviews but also on the idea many of the offerings coming in sets of 8-12 bits. First, I didn’t need 12 11/64″ drill bits. Also, one might infer that a set of 3 bits might likely be of higher quality than a set of 12 for only a slightly higher price.The YellowPaw Industrial Grade M35 Cobalt Titanium Aluminum Nitrite bits are amazing. They cut through the tough steel almost “like butter”. Quality lubrication is always recommended. I highly recommend these bits for serious cutting through any tough metal.

    Good bit. Works well with slow speed and cutting oil. Adding pressure helps a lot. I used it to cut thru pickup truck frame steel. It did the job. No one should think it is going to be a fast process, but it was reasonable for the time required by the slow cutting speed. I would think that this bit would work well in a mag-drill. 1/2 inch is the largest that will fit in a normal sized drill, and it fit well enough. It would be reasonable to have one of these in anyone’s tool set.

    I used these at low drilling speeds to drill out tent canopy connector screws and it worked very well.     At first the name sounded like it was made in China. The price also raised a red flag but since I only had 8 holes to drill on a 10 steel I-Beam I went with it. Upon arrival I noticed they were made in the USA. The finish was very well made. I drilled all 8 holes with very little effort. Checked the drill bit after use and only a very tiny amount of the coating had worn away. This could be due to my drill bit guide bushing. The drill bit is still sharp. I have many drill bits from 1/16 inch to 2 inch and know how much this 11/16 inch drill bit usually cost. Next time I need a drill bit I will go with Yellow Paw.
